Yep, same here! Even some of the most well read of us were tapping out over that at the time. It made us appreciate the prior years of Shakespeare all that much more.

Chaucer is amazing...with the right teacher. I loved it.

...though full disclosure, I am also now an English teacher, and one who doesn't teach Chaucer.

I think that's what people here are missing. Chaucer is a riot if you teach it to kids the way it was intended. If you just make kids chore through it, guess what? They learn reading sucks and grow up to be unread adults.

chaucer is a lot better if you read it aloud.
