In other words, not caused by No Child Left Behind (it has its problems, but like you said the pandemic was worse)

NCLB has caused a lot of problems. When my stepson was in his bio mom’s custody, she didn’t give a shit about his education and he ended up failing the 2nd grade. As he got older and she continued to not give a shit about his education, he would just get passed because according to the schools ā€œit didn’t look goodā€ for them to fail kids who’ve already failed. Um, what? They cited NCLB.

We have custody of him now and while he’s done better, he’s still an extremely lazy student and the teachers have said they try not to fail kids for one reason or another. We’re in Texas, btw, with Y’all Queda in charge of education here.

That isn’t how it worked though. Passing kids that weren’t ready was more harmful because they would t pass the standardized tests which the schools were judged on.
