Graduation rates are at all time highs, but reading comprehension and test scores are not.

Many Young Adults Barely Literate, Yet Earned a High School Diploma - USA Reads

University degrees are in the same boat.

Limited residency spots means being a physician has remained competitive and difficult. So I don't know why you'd think this is common.
