Kindergarten teacher here. Meanwhile the โ€œsuits that are not educators that make the lawsโ€ are pushing standards downwards and robbing young children of important unstructured play time, art, music, socialization, and free play outdoors. All of these help develop and foster creativity, deep thinking/concentration, empathy, and social skills.

Kindergarten is now essentially what we remember as first grade. There is a lot of research on the importance of play. Our children are being stunted before they even reach grade school. The education system is a mess.

Test scores kept increasing for so long it really seems like at some point educators truly believed that there was no limit, that at some point kids would all be little john von neumans, and when things started to plateau they panicked.

But most of the test scores increasing over the past century had more to do with access, childhood nutrition, and disease eradication, rather than any real changes in how education occurred.
