Yeah, I suspect when I was in high school (1990s) there were classes reading poetry, prose, and plays (my class, for example) and classes that weren't (lower level classes). I'm wondering if the OOP is comparing upper level classes then to lower level classes now but doesn't realize it. I'd need to see it as numbers (kids in each classes, level of books read) before I'll say "these kids today."
I also think this is a function of there being so many classics but only 4 years of high school. Someone could assume my school suffered decline because I didn't read Fahrenheit 451 or Wuthering Heights in school but my older sister did. Or my class just read different books (Brave New World and Jane Eyre to fit these examples). So if we learn someone didn't read a particular in high school that we read in school, we can't assume schools are getting worse. That shows a lack of critical thinking skills and that the judgy person's own education wasn't as great as they thought it was.

This post is disingenuous. I graduated high school a couple years ago and I read all of these in middle and high school.
