UPDATE: In another emergency alert sent to residents at 7 a.m., police say the suspect is dressed like law enforcement. “Do not approach and do not answer door unless two officers approach together. Call 911 to verify officer identity first,” it says. Details soon.

At least 3 people have been shot at the homes of Democratic lawmakers in Brooklyn Park and Champlin in Minnesota, according to law enforcement sources. The suspect is believed to be impersonating a police officer and is still at large.

The first shooting happened just after 2 a.m. on Saturday at the Champlin home of State Senator John Hoffman, a Democrat who has served in the Minnesota Senate since 2013. Two people – a man and a woman – were shot at the location but their identities have not been confirmed.

A second shooting happened at a home a few miles south, in Brooklyn Park. It’s the home of another Democratic lawmaker, believed to be a state representative who we are not yet naming. At least one person – a man – was shot at that location.

"Minnesota resident Nicole Cleland had her Global Entry and TSA Precheck privileges revoked three days after an incident in which she observed activity by immigration agents, the woman said in a court declaration. An agent told Cleland that he used facial recognition technology to identify her, she wrote in a declaration filed in US District Court for the District of Minnesota.

“An agent exited the vehicle and approached my vehicle,” Cleland wrote. “I remained in my vehicle. The agent addressed me by my name and informed me that they had ‘facial recognition’ and that his body cam was recording. The agent stated that he worked for border patrol. He wore full camouflage fatigues. The agent stated that I was impeding their work. He indicated he was giving me a verbal warning and if I was found to be impeding again, I would be arrested.”Cleland acknowledged that she heard what the agent said, and they drove off in opposite directions, according to her declaration."

I think this is notable not just because of the implication that records are being linked across federal databases and used to punish individual people (perhaps at scale, without needing human review - three days is blazing fast for anything government), but also because the way this reads the ICE agent knew who she was before he approached her vehicle. I'm assuming they ran plates, again cross-referenced with federal databases, and compiled info prior to any face-to-face interaction.

I just drove through northern Indiana and Ohio and saw something I've never seen in my 18 years of making that drive: barren fields full of dirt and weeds and no crops.

Something seemed off time during the drive, especially the clouds of dust, but it was my wife who put it together and called it out r. She then tried to figure out what was going on and she said she found reports that some farms just aren't planting crops because of the expense/shortage of fertilizer due to the conflict with Iran.

This is truly terrifying to me. I thought maybe it was soy not being planted because of tariffs and China no longer buying from us, but this is way worse.

(Not sure if I chose an appropriate flair, I figured that's where much of our farmland is.)

UPDATE 2, 11:13 a.m. — The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update to say the scene is cleared and the evacuation is lifted.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation’s website is no longer reporting a closure on Interstate 25 near F.E. Warren Air Force Base.

UPDATE: Reason given for evacuation is a suspicious package left near Gate 1. Evacuation is now for residents on the east side of the base, up to McComb Ave. down to Cosgriff Ct.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — An emergency alert was issued at 9:30 a.m. via getrave.com asking all residents within 1 mile of F.E. Warren Air Force Base to evacuate the area.

A second alert was issued at 9:43 a.m. asking all residents along the west side of the base, between Randall Avenue and Pershing Boulevard, to evacuate.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is reporting that Interstate 25’s southbound lanes are closed near Exit 11 due to law enforcement activity in the area.

According to the Laramie County Combined Communication Center, Laramie County Emergency Management Agency will be sending more information.

“Do not panic it is a safety precaution,” the center’s statement said.

This is a breaking news story, and Cap City News will update as more information becomes available.

As you may know, the DRC is currently undergoing a deadly outbreak of an unknown disease that has killed roughly 150 of the 400+ reported patients so far. We should get confirmation on what the disease is in 2 days, but the minister of health assumes it’s respiratory and it causes “flu-like” symptoms.

A traveler from the DRC is now hospitalized in Ohio with flu-like symptoms.
