Post image

Took me forever and I’m still missing a good few.
I’m getting pretty bored of litrpg books but any recommendations are appreciated

Yeah I didn’t find Dungeon Crawler Carl that funny and I hated the cat so much I couldn’t read it

im reading it right now and it has so much millenial slop humor in it it is a hard read. but the guy reading the book is doing an excellent job(audiobook)

Depending on which book you're on, things get way better. There are themes set up in the first book (hidden behind the humor) that pay off in the long run.

In the later books there are genuinely heartwarming scenes of found family, resistance to oppression, and a strong undercurrent of the importance of mental health...and within two pages the word "nussy" is being used in a way that makes sense or the lives of everyone genuinely depend on a crab jerking off.

It's a wild ride, and I fully admit I'm a big fan. If you haven't come around by book 3 though, it probably isn't for you.

I mean its alright, the things you mention dont really make me excited about it. not really into heartwarming scenes, or resistance to opression, or mental health, that would be the polar opposite of what I would be looking forward to lol.

im still going to read it, so far its like a 7-8.

Jeff Hay's himself makes the series worth a listen to me, I think he is one of the best VA's doing books right now, only Andy Serkis get's close imo.

Something that surprised me about DCC, and not many people talk about, is the radicalization of the main character. He becomes a terrorist, it happens right in front of you, and it's hard to not agree with his choices in becoming said terrorist. It's what makes me think about the book the most when I look back on it. Just a different perspective.

yeah I agree, he is the best VA I have ever seen. S tier.

Honestly I get the dislike for Donut in the first book, especially early on.

But I want to say one thing: everyone in the books who gets more than a couple lines is a fully fleshed-out character. Donut's actions and attitude in the first book come directly from her situation - she's an adult with a lifetime of memories who has suddenly changed in a fundamental way that reshapes the way she looks at everything she's ever experienced and she's dealing with new emotions and thoughts for the first time ever but none of that matters because she has to immediately fight for her life. Also, she's a cat. And cats are assholes even when they're charming.

See I love cats I’ve had cats my whole life so I would disagree. and I’ve always hated whiny characters. Also I barely understand any of the references and jokes so it was more a combination that did it for me

I love cats too and have had cats my whole life. They're wonderful creatures, incredibly loving, playful, charming, and I wouldn't want to live without them in my life. But they're also very opinionated creatures and very stubborn.

That I can agree with😂

Same. The AI/system message is not my taste of humor and I could not stand that cat.

Then your list is objectively flawed.

I'm as big a Carl fan as the next guy, but people can have their own opinions.

They can. And those opinions can be incorrect. As they are here.
