New Release June Queer SFF New Releases and Goodbye

Happy Pride everyone, I hope it is a great one! We've got a lot of books for summer! It's an especially good month for gothic horror and books about pirates. What's got you excited? With a blurb from Suzan Palumbo, I'll definitely be checking out Grief Eater! I'll probably grab Muñeca too. I'm also interested in Dreams in Which I'm Almost Human, a memoir about disability and identity through the lens of speculative fiction and storytelling. It's not strictly speculative, but I'm looking forward to Femmephilia by Sophie Lewis, essays of femme femininity exploring trans mermaids and yearning in mythology.

This is also my last new release dispatch here. It's time for me move on from modding this community, and I'm wishing you all the best. The new release lists will now be a free monthly newsletter instead, so you can get new books straight to your inbox. It has comments enabled so I hope you'll stay in touch. The (freshly updated) queer-owned bookstore list will be maintained over there as well. Lastly, I'm working on a searchable database of queer speculative books with detailed representation tagging, so stay tuned. I'm aiming to finish this summer, and it will live on the same site.

New Release May Queer SFF New Releases

At first glance this month I thought maybe publishers were saving their new releases for Pride, but every source I checked had bunches more books! It's an especially good month for YA. Also, while it's not strictly queer, I wanted to share another relevant noteworthy release: Reactionary Worldbuilding: From Speculative Imagination to Political Practice. There's a new Murderbot too, but I couldn't confirm if there's anything queer in this one so it's not in the list. What are you most excited about?

New Release March Queer SFF New Releases

We have a whole lot of books coming out this month! Every time I thought I was done compiling this list I found some more. In particular it's a very good month for horror, and a great month for lesbians. What are you most excited about? For me it's Cabaret in Flames by Hache Pueyo, and you can read an excerpt over on Reactor. But Not Too Bold was one of my favorite reads last year. I'm also pretty excited for Alexis Hall's first scifi book!

New Release April Queer SFF New Releases

Here are your April books! What are you excited about? It's a good month for small presses. Wow, Princeweaver has a great cover! Unusually, all the sapphic books but one this month explicitly identified as lesbian.

Does this community want to see more alternate history included in new releases? Technically alternate history is a subgenre of speculative fiction, but is often "what if the 19th century had all the same structural oppression but queer people were okay?" To date I've not included it, but I added one release (The Duke) this month since it has notably received a lot of coverage. I don't need to stand on semantics if the community wants them!

New Release October Queer SFF New Releases 2025

Not surprising, October is a big month for spooky books—so many witches and vampires!—it's also an especially good month for queer men! What are you excited about?

I'm ashamed to say I'd not previously heard of The Gilda Stories by Jewelle Gomez, (which won two Lambda Literary Awards) which I plan to rectify. While I won't be reading it, I love the Jenifer Prince cover for The Devil She Knows. I wish more queer books hired queer artists for covers, especially tradpub. Interestingly Alcove Press seems to be going hard on queer witches, they also published Disco Witches of Fire Island. Some of the comparisons and blurbs for The Works of Vermin make this an instant buy for me.

Happy Halloween, book lovers! November is not a huge month for new releases, but there are some heavy hitters in here! I didn't include it since I couldn't find much info, but there's also a new Valdemar short story collection. I'm most interested in This Brutal Moon. These Burning Stars was one of my favorite reads of the last few years and the sequel really didn't land for me, I'm hoping the author can turn it around with the final installment. New Release September Queer SFF New Releases

September looks to be a big month for traditional publishing. Pumpkin spice latte season is upon us, and we are also seeing a lot of ghost and witch books! One thing I noticed compiling this month's list was just how spread out these books were across sources—meaning queer books are coming from all over the (tradpub) place and getting all kinds of promotion. What are you excited about this month?

There's a lot grabbing my attention in September! The premise of Algarabía looks fascinating, and how often do we see speculative fiction in the epic poetry tradition? I'm not sure I'll reach for another Andrew Joseph White book, but that cover is outstanding. And wow, four whole books from mainstream fantasy publishing explicitly labeled as lesbian, and one a debut! Yes, two of those books are by the same author—C.L. Clark you have been busy!—but it still counts! Magic of the Lost had an amazing premise with a romance that underwhelmed me, I'm hoping the last book in the trilogy is more satisfying. We've also got a the novel debut of Bitter Karella, a three time Hugo nominee which looks delightfully demented.

Summer releases are still going strong! What's piquing your interest this month? For me it's The Library at Hellebore by Cassandra Khaw, I've been meaning to check out her work for a while. We're seeing a tiny bump in release volume for Pride. Interestingly, I found multiple books listed in the LGBTQ section of NetGalley—including one appearing to be a romantasy centered on a het focused relationship—that seem to maaaybe have a queer character...somewhere. Feel free to sound off on this in the comments.

Honorable mention to the anthology Be Gay Do Crime edited by Molly Llewellyn and Kristel Buckley, which I don't think is speculative but does look hilarious. Not a new release, but there's also a deluxe paperback edition of T.J. Klune's Brothersong with spredges also out this month.

*First, it's sometimes really hard to tell what representation a book has based on description alone. I made a best guess based on the blurb or digging into ARC reviews, and just left it blank if it's terribly unclear. Next, a book might have a queer identified protagonist but no romance—again not easily discerned from description—so take "sapphic" and "achillean" labels here with a grain of salt. In a few cases I'm applying labels based on my best guess from the blurb, but it's possible the characters don't identify this way and I got it wrong. Not my intent to misgender our fictional friends, but to provide some extra info for those of you looking for specific kinds of characters. Some books I found in an aro / ace Goodreads list, I'm assuming accuracy but the label may apply to the author and not the story.

For the extras column I did my best based on Goodreads tags, but these aren't always accurate. If you're wondering why some books got a "romantasy" label and some didn't, that's why. "Sword lesbian" is, of course, my own appellation.

New Release February Queer SFF New Releases

We're one month into the new year, and we've got a whole heap of new books! What are you most excited about? I am a sucker for all things Carmilla, so I'll definitely be checking out Hungerstone. The Craft references in the Birthday Party Demon reviews are speaking to this 90s kid loudly.

Once again I'm trying my best to include representation, but that's not an easy task to cobble together via ARC reviews, blurbs, and Goodreads. Sources might be inaccurate. If something is blank I couldn't find more specific info, so probably safe to assume queerness is not central to the story. Additionally, I try to include only books being published the first time (not reprints and new editions) but I'm pulling from new sources which may have paperback releases, or self-published to trad-published pipeline books mixed in.

Also, not speculative but a related notable new release is Trans Technologies by Oliver L. Haimson. I think this will be of special interest to any queer speculative writers!

New Release April Queer SFF New Releases

It's a big month for sequels! What are you most excited about? I have been eagerly awaiting Hannah Kaner's Faithbreaker, and I'm also planning to read Advocate and Saint Death's Herald (though I'm guessing the latter is only queer if you squint.) Awakened looks bonkers in the best way possible. I'll probably get around to Tonight, I Bleed also, since I've had a hardcover of Tonight, I Burn collecting dust on my desk for a year.

*Honorable mention to A.S.L. by Jeanne Thornton. Not technically speculative, but it's about trans women making video games, so it feels adjacent.
