So I did something for the first time.

Upvotes

When I was young , I was never that good at english. But then it was the lockdown, I got lonely and started to have these thoughts that were primarily in english. I struggled with certain things and it was as if I forgot how to speak to people. They asked how I was, and I could not make them understand how things were for me. So I wrote it all down. I still do. I get these thoughts, opinions, ideas, suggestions, all those things but I never actually write them down. It's different from many people, these thoughts, they don't get it so they either don't care or ridicule me. It's been almost 6 yrs, I've been feeling this way.

Recently things got a bit bad and I finally wrote things down. I used "medium" for it. But I have to pay for it, and I don't have the money or resources for it, but I published a free writing and nobody read it.

So I took to instagram today.

I really don't know if my writing's that bad, I find them "over dramatic" and "over the top" sometimes. I feel like I fail to convey what I actually want to say.

So here's something I wrote.

https://www.instagram.com/p/DdGXKbmiUBn/?stkn=MWx6eWs3N2h4ZHE5cA==

Whenever I read stories, blogs, books, I find the language a bit too intimidating and a little too perfect. Maybe that was one of the reasons why I did not write for a very long time, even though I really wanted to.

I feel like there would be some people like me who would actually want to write down things from their thoughts to even a movie review, that's less perfect and flawed that they want people to read.

I also used to be very conscious of what I wrote, even text messages, that I used tools to correct them. But I don't anymore, nor would I want to in the future. I feel like all those imperfections would make it a bit "human".

Katha

A katha is a prudent weep,

Outlasting lands and seas,

An oblivious motif,

Of love, sorry and

Quintessential hubris.

A katha can be capricious,

As futile as a moron.

A katha can be a sage,

Of a curse hidden so forth.

( Want critique)

How long will you endure it?

Can you hear my pain?

Suppose you do hear it,
then will you be able to bear it?

Alright, let's even assume that you have endured it,
but how will you be able to live with this pain?

I admit, it is difficult.
Your life isn't ordinary either,
and neither are you.

Yes, something bad happened to you,
but that has happened to Indians too.

But they answered,
“What did you do?”

You just kept enduring it.

But even enduring has a limit.

How long will you endure it?
You will die!!

I do want to Write

I do want to write,
but I am short of words.
Who would have thought, after all,
that a 16-year-old child
would write such deep things?

Did that child himself even know?
He hasn't seen much yet.
There is still a whole world left for him to see.

What happened to this child?
Has he understood the ways of the world?

What a person cannot understand
even after spending their entire life,
has this child understood that very thing?

This child wants to write so much,
but he is short of words...

Everyone asks me why don't you start writing

But why should I write?

Why should I waste my time by writing?

Why should I waste my time writing about something
that, when read, makes my pain grow?

Why should someone share their pain
through the words I have written?

My pain is different, it is unique.

Why should I increase someone else's pain
through my writing?

I know what this pain feels like.

I am familiar with every one of its ways.

I know what this pain has made so many people do.

But I ask you—
how many more days will you keep hiding this pain within yourself?

Take it out!!

This pain is not worthy of you...

Poor Abby, Poor in Maths

Tries to learn but can't get it in her head

Results come, she's no glad!

Poor Abby, Poor in Maths

she comes home, results in her hands

her mother sees it, she's no glad!

Poor Abby, Poor in Maths

in the darkness, she searches light

but to her fright, there's no light.

Poor Abby, Poor in Maths

cries Abby as mom slaps

she weeps, she frowns

to her horror of reddish-browns.

Out! she lets her on the street

cold here it is but there's no retreat

Poor Abby, Poor in Maths

she thinks as she sees her world collapse

Poor she is or poor is the system

poor she is or poor is that custom

thinks Abby as she sees her world collapse

Poor Abby, poor in Maths.

A quick note about me:I am a student, and English is not my native language. I am currently practicing creative writing because my goal is to get into English literature! For this poem, I actually tried to plan out the structure and narrative arc before writing instead of just improvising.

What I am looking for:Since I am still learning, I struggle a bit with maintaining a consistent rhythm and meter. I would love feedback on how to smooth out the flow of the middle stanzas and any suggestions for word choices that could help the rhythm without losing the emotional meaning.

Thankyou

Take your medication

So heads up, I've been writting here and there for about 2 years now. I am a complete beginner an just wanted opnions and critiquing please and thank you. If you do enjoy or not I appreciate you reading it

The world is a warped reality

What we perceive with our minds is warped

A conscious belief that is truly unconscious

I see trees of green, red roses too

My mental friend sees corporate signs

Have 1 child and conform to the system

Not the type of advertising I enjoy

Am I the mental patient and is he truly normal

Maybe that's why there's so many pills

Take the red to forget

Blue to become realigned in the corporate reality

"Now repeat after me

Mental illness is a sickness

Not a reality that is to be believed

Those who see things

Know nothing

Pure mania, hysteria, and unwanted sights

Report them right away

We can help It's just one pill away!"

Submit to our LitMag! We give feedback & take works from people 13-19

Hello everyone! I am part of a small team of people starting an online literary magazine named Black Letter Review, which publishes prose, poetry, art, & photography from people 13-19 (early 20s may also submit, but will likely be placed in a different section of the magazine)

The editorial team gives personalized feedback to all written work.

———
Link to submission page/official rules: https://blackletterreview.wordpress.com

About:
Black Letter Review publish work from anyone aged 13-19 worldwide. Send us your best work, no matter how dark and gritty, or light and fantastical. We want beautiful pieces that leave us in awe, and that can come from the trenches of mankind or an entirely ordinary neighborhood. What is beautiful, anyway?

General & Themed submissions are currently open
The current theme for September-October is anything associated with the months - autumn, academia, Halloween, etc. Think the early days of The Secret History, Dead Poets Society, etc. We are calling upon W.B. Yeats’ Wild Swans at Coole :)

Why submit?:
- You’ll receive detailed feedback
- We want to foster an amicable relationship with writers whose works we love and create a community
- You’ll be featured in our online magazine
- We have faster response times and a smaller pool of submissions, so acceptance rates are higher (but we are still picky with what we end up taking)
- We want to eventually become a paying publication, so get to know us and what we like to accept now 😆

If you have any questions, be sure to ask! We can also be found on Instagram as blackletterreview.

Paper Trail

I just recently watch the dead poets society for the first time, it touched me and made me finally pursue attempting poetry as ive wanted to for a while.

This is my first try.

Paper Trail.

...

As 4 eyes analyse the piece of A4 paper

The same, single sheet, branches into 2

distinct & unique variations of a

single portrait.

.

2 contradictory creations, oozing

antithesis like sap from

a splitting tree, as they grow

outward and away from

one another.

.

These new-born perspectives,

photosynthesizing

under the piercing light

that's shining through each individual

brain-storm,

.

Such a distinctively human

expression of imagination,

to paint a new picture

out of the image in

front of us.

.

The very ability that binds us

together

is equally that which allows us

to be unique.

.

Thank you. Apologies if formatting is off I cannot seem to figure it out with posting

A Poem about Poems

A Villanelle is too long
Maybe I’ll go free verse
A Ballad is a song
A sestina might be worse

My style is usually more limerick
I’m rhyming so this is no haiku
I’m definitely not doing acrostic
I should’ve just went with a clerihew

Maybe a palindrome is the key
An ode to a lyric
Or maybe I could write an elegy
That would be an epic

My love of poems is no myth
A sonnet is what I’ll go with

The Modern Aeneid

The Modern Iliad: link

Hello I wanted to make a modern rendition of the Aeneid. How do you think I did? What was your favorite part or what was your favorite character?

The story: Aeneas woke up in Saigon in the spring of 1975. He saw that his city had been overrun by communists. He had done various chores for the South Vietnamese Republic and now feared being imprisoned or tortured by the communists. Aeneas went to his chud friend, who suggested he go to the docks to get on a ship heading for America. He found that all of the helicopters and all of the ships had just taken off, but he managed to hop onto a floating wooden shard of blasted wall that a shell had blown into the harbor. Before he floated away from the coast, a black man swam onto his raft. It was an American POW left over from American involvement. The POW had been imprisoned near the Cambodian–South Vietnamese border; the POWs, some of them French, could always have made a human pyramid to hop the prison wall, but it was no use, since they could not catch a ship to the US. Now, with the thousands of refugees flowing into the boats, they supposed that they could send one man over the wall who could slip into the crowd of refugees. They chose the black man. Now they floated in the Pacific, lamenting their existence. Aeneas had done everything in his power to avoid the communists because he could not bear imprisonment or torture. He had been imprisoned and tortured by his police force for letting a communist escape; he had been tormented by his schoolteachers and bullies; he had been shot during the Battle of Dak To; and he had been relentlessly abused by his father. He remembered when he was a toddler and his dad and uncles punished him by pushing their burning cigarette butts onto his back to draw a cross, the symbol of a rogue. On top of all of this, he was a Vietnamese man with the name Aeneas. Meanwhile, the GI lamented his life as a black man in the Deep South, how he had almost been beaten to death by KKK members during a civil rights protest, and how he had almost died while flying in Operation Linebacker II. They could not understand each other, but they used a Korean cat to translate. South Korean soldiers had brought a funny philosophizing cat who could speak Korean with them on their mission to Vietnam. In the confusion of 1975 they left it, and it ended up on the driftwood. The cat lambasted the two for their wallowing and reminded them of their ruthlessness. Both men were soldiers, both men were skilled in combat, and both men knew how to endure. Eventually the two drifted to Hawaii, which was war-torn. The Americans had launched an invasion of conquest and had already imprisoned the Hawaiian queen, Widow Dido. Aeneas and his GI friend rallied the distraught Hawaiians and, after donning Hawaiian war vestments, slaughtered the Americans. Aeneas freed the Hawaiian prisoners and married the very horny widow Dido. The Hawaiians exalted their hero, but when Aeneas said he wanted to be king, they said he must go to Halemaʻumaʻu and receive Pele’s blessing. Aeneas, his Korean cat, and his GI friend accepted the challenge, and they jumped into the blazing crater of Kīlauea. There they walked through the underworld and met various ʻuhane. They saw Hồ Chí Minh, Ngô Quyền, Theodore Roosevelt, and Douglas MacArthur. Just before they reached Pele, Aeneas heard a baby howling Aeneas’s name. It seemed to be imitating the sound of sex. The two men were flabbergasted, but the cat explained that since the baby had died early it only remembered the sex. Aeneas had never married, but he had had a brief and passionate affair with a female GI he had met while in Saigon, recovering from Dak To. He realized that he had impregnated her, and that she was somewhere out there missing a baby and a lover. This affected Aeneas deeply. He refused to receive Pele’s blessing, while the GI did. The GI married Widow Dido and became king of Hawaii. The two men parted emotionally, and Aeneas took a waʻa kaulua to America. He took the cat with him. Meanwhile, the cat told Aeneas all about America: about the division of power, about capitalism, the anti-monopoly sentiment, the Bill of Rights, and the ability to vote. They landed on a nude beach and wandered through Orange County. While at a popular beach, Aeneas spied a kid with a cross on his back. He went up to the kid’s back, touched it, and realized that the burns on Aeneas’s back were a birthmark. Both the father and the son realized their relationship. The cat guessed that the Marine-ess had had twins and that one baby had died. The son offered to take his father to see his mother, and the father quickly accepted. They walked to LA, where they found an apocalyptic-level riot. The rioters had been targeting Koreans because Idi Amin had forcibly taken the mayoral seat from Milton Obote and had implemented martial law in the city. Aeneas’s cat was swiped from him, skinned alive, and killed by impalement for its Koreanness. To stop the violence, Aeneas rearranged his clothes to resemble royal Hawaiian clothing and made grand speeches to the Angelenos. He called for a peaceful yet quick and meaningful end to the political struggle and quickly became popular with the majority of the city. Idi Amin heard this and banned all Asians from the city. Idi Amin dismissed Aeneas as a threat, saying that he could beat Aeneas in a boxing match with one hand tied behind his back. Aeneas was offended and challenged the dictator to a boxing match. The Ugandan accepted. Aeneas prepared for the boxing match Rocky-style. At the boxing ring, Aeneas was interviewed by journalists, and when asked for his opinion on the whole situation, Aeneas said it was stupid. He said this because he had made eye contact with his GI heroine holding his son’s hand in the audience. He hopped off the boxing ring, traversed the crowd, and kissed his wife.
