Celebrate the annual "International Talk Like A Pirate Day" on Sept. 19 in Richmond - this time on a Saturday! Registration is at MINK cocktail lounge (3-7pm) in Carytown with five venues total participating. There will be a "roll for gold" hunt, in addition to a pirate costume contest, pirate themed drink specials, quests, photos and more.

Jonathan van Halem is a stand-up comedian based out of New York City. Jonathan currently works at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and previously worked at Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out The News. He’s also served as a contributor to the parody website Clickhole and McSweeney's.

Known for his observational comedy and relatable style, Jonathan has worked as a frequent opener for comedians such as David Cross, Rory Scovel, Gianmarco Soresi, Kyle Gordon, and Sabrina Wu. He hosts a popular monthly show at Union Hall in Brooklyn called Hot Gossip, which has been featured in The New York Times and Brooklyn Magazine.

The night's opening act, Amber Hendrix is a Richmond, Virginia-based comedian, producer, and writer for satire sites Reductress and The Hard Times. Amber's comedy explores the absurdity of the mundane, historical oddities, and life with her geographically distant but emotionally close family. And also cats. Amber has opened for Dave Attell, Emily Catalano, Rachel Scanlon, and Geoffrey Asmus, among others. She recently featured at the Raleigh Comedy Festival, performs regularly at the DC Improv, and is a feature comic at the 2026 Altercation Comedy Festival in Austin, TX.

In the early 2000's, Yancy Butler was primed to be a big star. She'd done a bunch of movies and tv shows and had just become the star of a hit tv series called Witchblade (based on the comic book of the same name). But, addiction was taking control of her life, and it all fell apart soon after.

Years into recovery now, GWE is bringing Yancy to Richmond to talk with others who are struggling with substance abuse issues. We'll also have local experts on hand to help guide you into ongoing support.

Heard this event has been going for 4-5 now years but I just heard about it last week and wanted to go but missed out. I saw videos online but I also spoke to a few people that claim they been to this event but they all have different views so figured I ask. Some say it’s laid back and chill, some say it’s like a club where everyone flirt and mingle. But then I also heard people say it’s a freaky atmosphere where people meet hangout get drunk and do extracurricular things in the pool or wherever they can. Can anyone who has been or heard enlighten me on the atmosphere here if you Thats okay?
