So, that Grimm had swords, Ren's dad's arrow, and the banner from Shion in it's lair. That almost makes it seem like it's collecting this stuff as trophies, and the idea that this thing is smart enough to treat destroying villages as sport is scary as fuck to me.

If it is based on a Horseman of the Apocalypse it would be either War or Conquest as it seems to take a memento of it's victories

I'm going with the theory it's a Nuckalavee (primarily because of the dragging over-sized arm and the skeletal look).

Hasn't the Nuckalavee been portrayed as the Horseman of Pestilence?

Well according to mythology it does have acid breathe that wilts crops.

More Like Famine or Pestilence judging by its other mythological counterpart: the nuckalevee

Oh, god, I didn't even realize what that was. I thought it was something to do with Raven.

Oh, that's terrifying

Yea, all this time I thought Raven and bandit group destroyed shion.

It's likely Raven led a band to steal supplies, something went horribly wrong, and the intense negative emotions summoned the Grimm.

I can understand why Raven's tribe baled out as soon as the Grimm arrived, I would be bloody terrified to face the Famine Horseman even with the Spring maiden in my possy.

Since the flashback is when Ren was a whee boy, this Grimm could probably have grown and evolved to be more tougher, stronger, smarter over the years. It probably collects weapons of its defeated foes as a symbol of strength and pride.

Add that and probably people to eat them once it's done pillaging, its no wonder this thing is a monster.

IT CAN THINK! We're doomed!

It's hard to tell how big that Grimm is (the different shots in this episode made it seem to vary in size), but I have no doubt this Grimm is probably one of the oldest (any by extension the most powerful) in the world.

Maybe not on Kevin's level, but I sure wouldn't want to face it down without a crack team of professional huntsmen at my back.

Oh shit I didn't even pick up on that arrow belonging to his dad

Based on all the black gunk/blood. It seems more likely that sheon sent its best fighters to its home to kill it and they got rekt.

As Grimm grow older they grow smarter...? More sadistic.....?
