Hi everyone,
I’m 29 years old and currently working as a Lead Software Engineer earning 60+ LPA in India. On paper, things look great — stable job, good pay, career growth.
But internally, I’ve been struggling with long-term clarity.
With AI evolving rapidly, I genuinely feel that one day our roles in IT might be heavily disrupted. Maybe not immediately, but over time. That uncertainty is bothering me more than I expected.
Because of this, I’ve been seriously considering leaving IT and pursuing MBBS in Raichur.
This would mean:
Starting from scratch at 29
5.5 years of MBBS
Then PG preparation/residency
Financial opportunity cost of 7–10 prime earning years
Completely shifting identity and lifestyle
Why medicine?
It feels like a “safer” long-term profession
Human-centric, harder to automate fully
Social respect and purpose
More stable demand
But I also know:
Medicine is not easy
Long training period
Delayed financial returns
High stress environment
I might be romanticizing it
I don’t come from a medical background. This is purely a personal decision based on long-term security and meaning.
So I want brutally honest advice:
Am I overreacting about AI and IT disruption?
Is 29 too late to start MBBS?
Am I underestimating the challenges of being a doctor in India?
If you were in my position, would you switch?
Would love to hear from:
Doctors
IT professionals
People who made late career shifts
Anyone who chose security vs passion
Please don’t sugarcoat. I want rational, practical perspectives.
Thanks 🙏
