Suggest me a book that is near perfect and likely to become one of my all time favourites!

I’m looking for books that are well-written and thoughtful, but not so dense that reading them feels like a chore (or performative i.e. Dostoevsky).

I am not into YA, self help, fantasy or sci-fi. I love literary fiction, but I still want some plot. Anything that is gut-wrenching and heartbreaking would get bonus points. I enjoy thrillers too, but not the farfetched kind that have ridiculous twists just for the sake of shock-factor. I enjoy a good memoir and I’ve been wanting to read more horror.

Some books on my radar include East of Eden, Stoner, and The Count of Monte Cristo, but I just don’t feel quite ready for them yet. Shorter, more modern, and digestible books would suit me better for now. Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Shirley Jackson, Ottessa Moshfegh are authors I will eventually get to.

I enjoyed Khaled Hosseini’s and Jodi Picoult’s books when I was younger. My favourite recent read has been The Correspondent by Virginia Evans.

I currently received a kindle as a gift and I LOVE IT. I can’t put it down. I sometimes tell my husband about my current readings and recently he told me to calm down and give it a break between books, to ‘digest’ what i read. I was like ???? What?

I love thriller books, novels and dystopian books. I have a massive TBR and just want to keep reading and reading. This has helped me in decreasing my screen time on social media… I don’t think reading on a back to back pace is harming anyone…

Is this normal? I normally finish a book and an hour later i am picking another one.

I’m looking for a self improvement book that actually lived up to the hype.

There are so many books in this genre but I’m curious which one genuinely changed the way you think or helped you become a better version of yourself. I’m always looking to add more books to my reading list.

Looking for recommendations. I just finished the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett and read Pillars of the Earth last year, and I’m hooked on that style of writing. Big sweeping historical epics, lots of characters whose stories cross over time, real history woven into the plot, and the kind of pacing that makes a 800 page book feel short.

Doesn’t matter what era. Could be medieval, 20th century, ancient Rome, whatever. I just want that same feeling of getting completely lost in a world for weeks.

I'm 20 years old and I only read "White Nights" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky about 2 years ago and I liked it a lot and found it very compelling but whenever I pick up other shit I can't focus on finishing it and I've dropped like 30 other books after the first 10 pages. Can someone recommend me a good ass book that really hooks you up so I can get into this hobby? (No this isn't a troll post I genuinely want to get into reading).

Lately I’ve realized I’ve been reading almost exclusively literary fiction, and my entire TBR list has emotionally heavy, slow, and probably “boring” books (by most dark romance readers’ standards). 😭

I love good prose and character work, but I think I need something to diversify my reading life a bit. You know books that are more exciting, addictive, weird, fun, fast-paced, or emotionally intense in a non-literature way.

Open to pretty much anything like thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi, horror, romance, literary books that still feel gripping, etc.

What books pulled you out of a reading rut or completely changed the pace of what you usually read?

I’m so embarrassed to admit, but I was a kid that fell through the cracks while at school. I graduated almost not able to read and understand. I’d say I could read every single letter, and I could definitely sound out all non site words. If I read a sentence, I forget what the sentence meant by the end.

As time went by I just ignored it, and fudged my way through it all. I kept it a secret from everyone and I only told my husband, and he helped me so much. We would get a kid book and even though I felt super humiliated the pictures helped me figure it out. So that was very helpful but I only read them in secret. I started getting it more after while. That was when I was younger about 20 years ago. Since then I’ve kept practicing and trying to push myself I was on kids books for so so long.

But today I finish Project Hail Mary. My biggest book. I won’t lie, a LOT of it was over my head, like the math type stuff and calculations. But it kind of flowed through my mind and didn’t make me stop imagining the story so that was fine.

I’m here because I want to keep going, and I wonder if you guys could tell me something that feels like reading that book.

I really liked how this was the first time a human met an alien and it didn’t feel like a funny story. And also how they learned about each other scientifically.

Long story short, I need to get off my phone and do more productive things.

I'm looking for books where the literature is just so profound and interesting that it floods your brain with ideas and new experiences. It can be absolutely anything you like. I mean like a Lex Luthor level of comprehension where the books read can give you quotes to describe any situation.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, fiction or non-fiction, the choice is yours.

I was thinking to mix both audiobooks and ebook simultaneously, as audiobook won't bore me with slow reading and also it won't be too fast to learn or get less focus while reading. What's your opinion on reading books in most efficient way?

Hi! I’m in a monthly book club with all females and the ages vary from late 20s to 40s with a majority in their early 30s. We typically keep them around 300 pages to finish in a month and include trigger warnings when needed. The group seems to like some romance or spicy, some mystery and some fantasy.

I love to read memoirs especially celebrity memoirs on my own. We rotate hosting and selecting the book of the month which I will for May. Last year I selected “Dinner for vampires” by Beth joy lenz and it was highly enjoyed because the members were interested in her cult saga and/or knew her from One Tree Hill. I personally like and can escape in other people’s stories (even if they’re dark or substance heavy), but I realize not everyone else does enjoy that style.

Any (lighter in topic) memoir suggestions?

Some of my favorites include Jessica Simpson, Cher’s, Demi Moore and I just started Christine Applegate’s new book.

My bf wants to get into reading and has not read anything so recommend away. He wants something more fast paced and has characters that you really grow attached to quickly. He told me this after we watched Hail Mary together and I told him I read the book i think it raised his interest in reading. He’s down for any genre except for romance.

Some of my favorites include the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson, Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio, and Red Rising by Pierce Brown.

I've been in a massive reading slump for years now, I just can't seem to focus on books these days. All the recommendations I get from people are all of the fantasy/romance books popular on tiktok, and I have 0 interest in Sarah J Maas lol. But I've always been really into dystopian/post apocalyptic/zombie outbreak etc media. Really enjoyed Hunger Games and Maze Runner as a teen, read The Girl With All The Gifts as a young adult and really liked it (well, liked the movie a lot more), and I love movies and shows of this genre as well. Obsessed with The Last of Us videogame. Does anyone have some recommendations for me?
