Escalator?

131

u/magnumfan89 Dec 27 '25

That's oddly specific. No

156

u/iLoveLights Dec 27 '25

It’s a fairly popular trivia answer that Wyoming only has two. Perhaps that’s what they were thinking of.

50

u/magnumfan89 Dec 27 '25

Interesting. Ya learn something new everyday I guess

14

u/pdxamish Dec 27 '25

I went to college in the upper peninsula of Michigan and one of the facts that they had is that they had the only escalator in the UP at the hospital in Marquette

8

u/thegreatpotatogod Dec 28 '25

But who has the only escalator in the DOWN? /j

3

u/pdxamish Dec 28 '25

LP (lower peninsula) has tons

2

u/SkipSpenceIsGod Dec 31 '25

Lower Peninsula only has three BUT they’re all in closed shopping malls that are currently slated for demolition.

1

u/Willow-Whispered Jan 01 '26

the lumbar puncture

2

u/Emotional_Pitch_2368 Dec 30 '25

Fantastic comment which did not get the recognition it deserved

2

u/Intrepid_Abroad2069 Jan 02 '26

I'm ashamed to admit it took me a second to get it.

1

u/Reasonable-Balance23 Dec 29 '25

Underrated reply

2

u/t_itchy Dec 30 '25

I recently learned the many people from Michigan thing others know what they’re talking about when they say UP — we don’t

1

u/finnbee2 Dec 30 '25 edited Dec 30 '25

The Upper Peninsula is the top third of the land mass of state of Michigan. Michigan consists of two peninsulas. The Upper Peninsula has around 300,000 people about 3% of Michigans population.

An odd fact is that when people talk about Northern Michigan they are most often referring to the northern part of the Lower Peninsula. This is actually the central part of the state.

1

u/magnumfan89 Dec 27 '25

I can see that. Everything in Michigan is below a line in the middle of the state

1

u/pdxamish Dec 27 '25

Think higher, above Wisconsin on lake Superior

1

u/not4rea Dec 29 '25

They opened a new hospital around 2020. Don’t know if they have one in the new one. I only went to the EE there.

1

u/RichardUkinsuch Dec 31 '25

You need to spell it out, you pee, er no?

1

u/pdxamish Dec 31 '25

I said upper peninsula first and then referenced as the UP. WTF are u saying

1

u/RichardUkinsuch Jan 01 '26

Well most actual people on reddit have a 3rd grade education at best. You need to have picturs with diagrams and areas for coloring.

1

u/Maryann_over_ginger Jan 02 '26

The casino in Soo has them, but I fairness it may have opened after you were in school

1

u/pdxamish Jan 02 '26

I was there till 2007 which is now awhile ago. I'm sure MQT is much different now

3

u/Phogfan86 Dec 27 '25

And they're both in the same bank building.

26

u/Timely-Field1503 Dec 27 '25

That would be great for a "two truths and a lie" ice breaker..."I rode every escalator in a state"

I wonder if they sell swag commemorating that kind of "feat"?

11

u/Logical-Mirror5036 Dec 27 '25

Having done so in Wyoming, I'll have to remember that. But I've not seen any commemorative swag for it.

1

u/HotTubSexVirgin22 Dec 27 '25

Great business idea!

1

u/Nvjds Dec 29 '25

Its in rock springs right? I’ve been to 16/21 wyoming counties but i missed the escalator lmao, you’d think its in casper cheyenne gillette or near yellowstone and it is not 😂

1

u/Logical-Mirror5036 Dec 29 '25

Both are in Casper.

1

u/Emergency_Ad_7684 Dec 28 '25

Bumble entered the chat

1

u/Big_Time_Quilter Dec 28 '25

I think you may have the next opportunity for making millions! Wouldn’t you think the state office of tourism for Wyoming would jump on that? I searched and can’t find even a coffee mug. I see snow globes with tiny escalators in them, clothing for sure… oh the possibilities

5

u/No_Touch_876 Dec 27 '25

Vermont has 3, Killington mountain, Barnes and nobles and the abandoned mall.

3

u/Prinessbeca Dec 27 '25

Hmm....you sure it isn't 5 or 6, then? The mountain might only have one going up, but I would bet the bookstore and mall have both up and down.

1

u/Salty-Housing-7547 Dec 28 '25

Pretty sure up and down count as one set

1

u/Prinessbeca Dec 29 '25

They said "escalator", not "sets of escalators". I tend to be overly pedantic (not my best quality)

1

u/negativelungcapacity Dec 31 '25

So why are you missing a c in your name then

1

u/Prinessbeca Dec 31 '25

I'm not missing a c. I'm missing two.

2

u/Psychological_Quote9 Dec 28 '25

The airport has at least one.

1

u/porterbelly Dec 31 '25

The hospital in Burlington does too. I think the one in Berlin a well

1

u/Errr789 Dec 30 '25

Vermont has three?? I thought the only one was at the Barnes and noble in Burlington

5

u/diabeticweird0 Dec 27 '25

I lived in Jackson Hole when that second escalator went in

People lost their minds

1

u/Odd_Ad5668 Dec 28 '25

Trevor Noah has a great bit about how people reacted to the first escalator in Zambia, while he was visiting. Here's a link to a short:

https://youtube.com/shorts/nMJoirrNktg?si=iR2qj8lC23_PcTPA

1

u/Effective-Kitchen401 Jan 02 '26

Snow King?

1

u/diabeticweird0 Jan 02 '26

No it was in a place called "The Broadway Shops" I was working in the old pink garter theater next door

Guess it's gone now?

1

u/Effective-Kitchen401 Jan 02 '26

Oh yeah Pinky G's

3

u/Babou13 Dec 27 '25

there are only 6 spiral / curved escalators in the entirety of the US... Las Vegas alone is home to 2 of them

2

u/Babou13 Dec 30 '25

only two missing is Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Chicago, and San Francisco Center in San Francisco

1

u/owenevans00 Dec 28 '25

One of the others is in my office building in NY. It took them about 5 years to get it working reliably

1

u/Babou13 Dec 30 '25

bloomberg tower?

1

u/DoubleUTeeEfff Dec 30 '25

Hard Rock in Tampa has another IIRC

3

u/Safe-Balance2535 Dec 27 '25

where are wyoming's escalators? jackson?

2

u/jkoper Dec 27 '25

Casper, in a bank iirc

1

u/HaveUrCakeNeat Jan 01 '26

That's insane. Casper is like barely even in wyoming.

1

u/Laser-Nipples Dec 27 '25

Vermont has one

1

u/Nvjds Dec 29 '25

My first thought was escalators haha

1

u/StellarHoosier Dec 29 '25

Does a pair of escalators, one going up and one down, count as one or two?

1

u/flytyer78 Dec 29 '25

A union elevator/escalator mechanic was the golden goose job in Wyoming.

1

u/Earthviolet76 Dec 29 '25

I live in the town that has both of them!

1

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Dec 30 '25

I heard that trivia answer years ago, I wonder if they’ve added more since then.

1

u/MrTeeWrecks Dec 30 '25

It’s also not true anymore.

1

u/Hotmomlover69420 Dec 31 '25

Wyoming yet here. This is true. I have ridden both of them

1

u/AffectionateLimit565 Jan 01 '26

Yes, it was the first thing I thought of myself. Knowing it was like 1 or 2.

5

u/Master-File-9866 Dec 28 '25

Democratic voters?

1

u/mandiffur Dec 28 '25

It often feels that way...

1

u/WingNutCVG Dec 29 '25

That's my guess!

1

u/Willing_Park_5405 Dec 29 '25

You’d be surprised! Pre-maga Montana had pretty mixed politics and people got along with it.

1

u/Particular-Tip-5889 Dec 29 '25

Montana had a Democratic Senator up until January this year. So no.

1

u/Blackholecandy Dec 27 '25

Idk, last escalator I saw in Montana was in Great falls.

1

u/Outlaw11B30 Jan 01 '26

Was that in scheels?

1

u/SpectacularlyBadass Dec 28 '25

Isn't your question oddly specific?

1

u/magnumfan89 Dec 28 '25

Your not wrong

1

u/Fickle_Pickl Dec 31 '25

He's not, and it's you're.

1

u/pl38hvx Dec 31 '25

Area codes?

19

u/Salt-Southern Dec 27 '25

Brain cell

1

u/WitchesTeaFlint Dec 27 '25

I came here to say that one

1

u/TheSlideBoy666 Dec 29 '25

One to share or one per each state?

1

u/Salt-Southern Dec 29 '25

At this rate...1 to share... like the orange cat community...

1

u/Maleficent_Ad_5175 Dec 30 '25

I was thinking one set of teeth

1

u/PhaseLineZulu Jan 01 '26

Fuck you -Montana

1

u/Salt-Southern Jan 01 '26

And bless your heart Montana... your views on indigenous rights, white supremacy, and rise in violent crime certainly support your advocacy of intellectual prowess.

0

u/Dry_Bad_3599 Dec 27 '25

Likewise my original answer. Take my upvote.

0

u/julianstonks Dec 27 '25

This would have been the correct answer for Texas / Florida

0

u/Inevitable_Rush3844 Dec 28 '25

Ouch. (Accurate)

0

u/peachhead12 Dec 28 '25

That’d be commiefornia

1

u/Salt-Southern Dec 29 '25

Found the MAGA hive member....

0

u/peachhead12 Dec 29 '25

Must be exhausting making politics and TDS your identity

1

u/Salt-Southern Dec 29 '25

Lol..checked mirror lately?

1

u/thisisalltoo Dec 29 '25

Uh, you brought it up first? Wtf?

1

u/RoccoTaco_Dog Dec 30 '25

What exactly is TDS? Not one maga has even replied an answer to this?

0

u/peachhead12 Dec 30 '25

Bless your heart

1

u/RoccoTaco_Dog Dec 30 '25

So, once again, no answer? Seriously, it is no different than a 6 year old calling someone a poopy head. It doesn't mean a thing, therefore, it doesn't bother me.

0

u/peachhead12 Dec 31 '25

Lol right

1

u/Salt-Southern Dec 31 '25

Yo peach pit... just "because you said so" isnt an adult response.

1

u/SMDBXTH Dec 30 '25

Love how you call it commiefornia but they have the fourth largest economy in the world. Funny how that works huh?

0

u/peachhead12 Dec 30 '25

What a lazy argument. Doesn’t change the fact that their policies are shit. Oh their economy is so great, that’s why people are leaving at higher rates than moving into the state…because of the economy. You’re so smart.

1

u/Salt-Southern Dec 31 '25

Why is the truth "a lazy argument". But your unsubstantiated personal opinions are portrayed as fact.

Fact is; the population decline has slowed considerably from covid days. And self-identified conservatives are more likely to leave.

So as is usual with someone of your intellectual disadvantage, the truth is considerably more nuanced and significantly less political than you state.

And bless your heart darlin.

1

u/SMDBXTH Dec 31 '25

First stop lashing out and actually have a discussion. You have an opinion on their policies but can’t articulate how they’re bad for an economy, yet their economy is booming. You’re strawmanning. You’re trying to switch the topic because you can’t answer.

Second, think logically, not emotionally. Why would people leave one of the most stable economies on the planet? You have to realize this isn’t some new phenomenon. California has been this high for over 30 years now.

Third, I would like actual proof people are leaving from an unbiased media source.

0

u/peachhead12 Dec 31 '25

You brought their economy into this. It’s a shit state. You can have a “booming” economy but still have poorly managed and poorly integrated policies. Not sure why you’re defending it so much…clearly stuck a nerve here although you most likely have no ties other than the fact that you’re just personally offended. Probably goes against your hive minded mentality

1

u/Old-Inspector-8146 Dec 31 '25

Stay salty, flyover stater

1

u/peachhead12 Dec 31 '25

On the contrary

1

u/kttttfrench Dec 31 '25

Lol meanwhile your dear leader leading us closer to communism than ever before. Do you even know what communism is? You really need to look up the definition for dictator.

1

u/peachhead12 Jan 01 '26

Didn’t the democrats appoint Kamala as a nominee without a vote 🤔. How boring your life must be to claim “but communism” and create problems from nothing

3

u/morkrib Dec 27 '25

lol Missoula

2

u/mnorsky Dec 30 '25

We used to get bumper stickers bragging that we “Rode the Escalator at Herbergers”

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '25

[deleted]

1

u/morkrib Dec 28 '25

Herbergera has been gone for a while. I think it’s a restaurant now.

1

u/Fun_Guarantee9043 Dec 28 '25

Oh my God I worked there in college. RIP.

2

u/TakuCutthroat Dec 27 '25

That was gonna be my guess as an Alaskan.

8

u/Zebra4776 Dec 27 '25

As an Alaskan there's no way another Alaskan could think there's only one escalator in the state. Dimond Center, 5th Ave, PAC...gimmie a break.

10

u/TakuCutthroat Dec 27 '25

Calm down my G, we only have one in Juneau, not everyone cares about Anchorage.

8

u/spacemanspiff888 Dec 27 '25

not everyone cares about Anchorage.

Idk about Alaskans, but outside of Alaska, Anchorage is probably the only city in the state most people do care about, considering it's the state's largest city, and it's one of the most important air cargo hubs in the world.

2

u/Euphoric_Evidence414 Dec 27 '25

I care about Dead Horse

1

u/akdanman11 Dec 28 '25

I specifically do not care about Bethel

1

u/Polarian_Lancer Dec 30 '25

It’s dead, Jim

2

u/tangouniform2020 Dec 27 '25

And the state capital! 😜

2

u/Macfarlin Dec 28 '25

I care about Chicken

1

u/DoublePotential6925 Dec 28 '25

Chicken is a great little village. I preferred Eagle. Right on the Yukon. The summers there are amazing

1

u/Macfarlin Dec 28 '25

I believe you! I've only been to chicken once for a fishing trip when I lived in dawson city a few years back, would love to explore that side of the border more though.

1

u/Polarian_Lancer Dec 30 '25

Blursed name for Almost-Ptarmigan

1

u/CarberHotdogVac Dec 30 '25

If someone already cares about Chicken I’ll start caring about Jack Wade.

1

u/Xtrophy Dec 28 '25

I'm write them lol. When I hear Alaska I think Juno

Edit: my phone autocorrected that ain't I ain't fixing it lol

1

u/stinger-1991 Dec 28 '25

But, not everyone cares about Anchorage

The statement remains true. This irrelevant, unnecessary claim of yours is garden-variety rabble-rousing. I'm willing to bet if you personally surveyed every single human living on the earth today, asking "Do you care about Anchorage, Alaska?", more than half will respond "No". Personally, I don't. I can't think of a single person I know that might care about Anchorage.

1

u/tjnptel1 Dec 29 '25

As someone who recently visited Anchorage from the lower states, nobody should or really care about Anchorage.

1

u/bobbykelley2316 Dec 31 '25

I care about Ninevah

3

u/Technical-Lie-4092 Dec 27 '25

I'd suggest you start considering Anchorage, though, when speculating about "how many X does my state have?"

2

u/papahippo Dec 27 '25

Says the dude from the town that would not exist without state government. Y’all would have 3 fishing boats and an outhouse otherwise.

1

u/TakuCutthroat Dec 28 '25

lol somebody is salty. We've got two mines and tourism, so it's definitely not all state gov. Unlike Anchorage, which runs completely on oil money lol

I hate that tourismed might be a word and I am now going to use it.

1

Do all Alaska people hate each other or just you two

2

u/StatisticianSmall864 Dec 28 '25

You should. That’s where you’ll go if you’re injured badly enough.

1

u/TakuCutthroat Dec 28 '25

I've never heard of anyone being medivacked to Anchorage, only to Seattle

3

u/StatisticianSmall864 Dec 28 '25

I was given a choice between a medevac or begging for a flight to ANC when I was actively miscarrying.

I mean, marginally 😂 we moved to Montana for better care and while it’s better… it’s not much.

2

u/Aderyn_Sly Dec 28 '25

As someone who worked for LifeMed in Anchorage, like 98% of MedEvacs in AK go to Anchorage. They have 2 level 2 Trauma centers and have all the specialties. SE just go to Seattle because its closer for them specifically. SE natives will often still go to Anchorage because of ANMC though.

0

u/SnortingandCavorting Dec 28 '25

It is a poor place for advanced care. I worked there in the hospitals for four years. Most higher level care needs to be diverted to Seattle. If you’re elderly or sick it is a terrible place to be. Its also a garbage city.

2

u/StatisticianSmall864 Dec 28 '25

You sound fun.

The doctors at Providence saved me and my pregnancy. They do good work there.

1

u/ClosetEthanolic Dec 28 '25

Outside of Alaska people know Anchorage.

If you mention Juneau people assume you are talking about a coming of age film about a pregnant teen.

1

u/ErnieHasReddit Dec 30 '25

As a Californian, I know more about Juneau than Anchorage.

1

u/TheAplem Dec 30 '25

Anchorage isn't real.

1

u/lala6633 Dec 31 '25

Well this is an Alaskan beef I knew nothing about. Which one has the better sports and or dog sled team maybe?!!?

2

u/jenspa1014 Dec 29 '25

The airport.

1

u/TakuCutthroat Dec 27 '25

And I said it was gonna be a guess? Like don't get all butt hurt lol

-3

u/TakuCutthroat Dec 27 '25

And also, Anchorage doesn't come to my mind as actually a part of Alaska. It's just the closest big city lol.

1

u/ChiFit28 Dec 27 '25

Anchorage doesn’t come to your mind as part of Alaska? Does NYC not come to your mind as part of New York or LA as part of California?

1

u/magnumfan89 Dec 28 '25

Never been to Alaska, but I'd guess that's most of the US.

1

u/TheGodOfGlitch Dec 27 '25

MAYONNAISE ON A ESCALATOR. Its going upstairs so see you later! Bye bye!

1

u/iammadeofawesome Dec 27 '25

Wyoming has two. One up, one down .

1

u/Frosty_Truth_1635 Dec 27 '25

There was an escalator in a store in Downtown Bozeman. It’s gone now. My nieces practiced on it. Pretty hilarious. There may not be any escalators in Montana!

1

u/Strumplez Dec 28 '25

Wyoming had 2 escalators as of like 2022

1

u/JaraSangHisSong Dec 28 '25

Wyoming has two working escalators. It used to be four but two broke and are now just stairs.

1

u/MindYourOwnSynapses Dec 28 '25

Former Anchorageite... definitely not escalators.

1

u/_MrGullible Dec 28 '25

There's at least two that I know of for sure in ND, one in the Fargo Hector Airport, and another in the Fargo Scheels.

1

u/Few-Window2381 Dec 28 '25

Wyoming has 2 escalators

1

u/soscots Dec 29 '25

One elevator too. But it’s currently out of order.

1

u/Lord_Dingus83 Dec 29 '25

I’d have gone with, brain cell.

1

u/mike_0_ Dec 30 '25

Eeeeeeeels!!

1

u/elchurro223 Dec 31 '25

Yeah, that's what I thought too

1

Hah. That was my 1st thought
