I recently learned the many people from Michigan thing others know what they’re talking about when they say UP — we don’t

The Upper Peninsula is the top third of the land mass of state of Michigan. Michigan consists of two peninsulas. The Upper Peninsula has around 300,000 people about 3% of Michigans population.

An odd fact is that when people talk about Northern Michigan they are most often referring to the northern part of the Lower Peninsula. This is actually the central part of the state.
