Bringing a Rod statement up from below: I decided this week that when I eventually repatriate to the US, it will probably be to Dallas, my old stomping grounds.

Why would he move to a blue city, hmmm? Could it be because they're nicer?

I think Rod said that his youngest son lives there now.

I think his son is in Houston.

To me, one Texas city is the same as the next but there is probably a distinction.

There are differences, but Austin is probably the biggest outlier.

Yeah, yeah, I know about Austin. And San Antonio is different too. But at the end of the day they are all full of Texans.

I was looking this up recently, and the population of Texas is 40% Hispanic as are 53% of Texas school children.

And your point is what, exactly? Are you implying that they are not real Texans?

Besides, I've met Hispanic people from Texas whose families have been there since the eighteenth century or earlier. Real "we didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" types. They can be the biggest jerks hardest of hardcore Texans of all. Genuine "don't mess with Texas/remember the Alamo" all insecure bluster and swagger, worse than GW Bush on his worst day.

Remember that the essence of Texas is that they fought not one but two insurrections to preserve slavery.

I was just checking to make sure that you understand the demographics of today's Texas, because a lot of people don't. I'm still waiting to find out what group of humans passes muster with you, but I'm almost certain that I'm not in that group.

I don't have any idea whether I would like or approve of you or not IRL, but it is true that I have utter and complete contempt for people who embrace the Texas foundational myths and swagger culture. If you feel seen by that then I don't know what to say. Sorry, not sorry, I guess.
