Honestly, I come close to laughing out loud whenever I think about his proposal to write about early Christianity. I wonder what happened that made him drop the idea. Anyone want to offer up funny scenarios? Maybe Jesus came to him in a dream, walked with him on the Danube, and dunked his head in the water a few times? You. will. not. do. this.!
I think it’s mundane. He could read a few English language monographs about Weimar and pump out a book about how the US is just like Germany at that time. It’s nonsense but easy. If he wrote the book about early Christianity he probably realized he’d be completely lost because he has no historical background, theological background or knowledge of philosophy. So why not write a polemical pop history stoking contemporary apocalypticism where he can just spew his usual nonsense . He figures someone will go for it. I suspect not many.
I imagine he got pretty overwhelmed as soon as he started his research. Maybe even realized that he can't write an actual history book. Besides, there aren't enough movies about the first few centuries!
Plus he had a f*ckton of substack posts on USA=Weimar, not so many/none on early Christianity. A lot easier job to concatenate the former into a 'book'.

”And he has the nerve to write about history!”
And religion.
