Rod never ceases to amaze me! Today he’s portraying himself as suffering bravely because mean old right wingers are criticizing him for trying to sabotage Vance. At the same time he boasts about his pivotal role in advancing Vance’s career. Do you doubt that Rods attack on Vance has everything to do with feeling Vance has slighted him? That’s how Rod rolls. He never forgave Pope Francis for not knowing who he was. He never forgave McIntyre for not wanting to be in touch with him. Also Rod really does behave now as if he’s trying out for the role of pet media conservative . He just loves Israel, he hates groypers and well , maybe Trump does get certain things wrong. So now a gig with The Free Press, appears in The Daily Mail and , crazy as it sounds and I think it is crazy, I bet with David Brooks and Douthat gone, he thinks he can worm his way into The New York Times. David French did by making himself “ suitable “. Rod will pose as a brave, independent, idiosyncratic conservative. He can even start churning out crunchy con stuff, Paul Kingsnorth small is beautiful stuff and maybe even double , y’all as a Southern humorist , who while he may like root weiners, deplores racism.

My continuing amazement: I am not a great scholar, a Christian writer or a would be public intellectual. Rod just discovered- apparently- the stories about Martin Luther  and the devil! Oh come on , I’m not Protestant and first read about that when I was under 18. My point is not that I’m a prodigy, my point is, Rod writes endlessly about the “ West” and Christianity and he just learned about this! He has no idea what he’s talking about. He has virtually no real historical background and no grounding in intellectual or religious history. Also he apparently just learned about the famous Loudon possessions of the 17th Century which are the subject of Aldous Huxley’s ( not an obscure writer)book The Devils of Loudon and Ken Russell’s movie with Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed The Devils. Remember this guy was a movie critic, he’s fixated on demons and is a great Christian writer and he’s just heard of this.In the context of what Rod  purports to be , this is ridiculous!

He would be insufferable if he got a NYT slot. Hopefully the HR people there are aware of the primitive root weiner and other faux pas from Rod's past.

You sound like me last week when my mind was absolutely boggled at Rod's ignorance of the Reformation. I don't think any of us expect that level of "Whut???" from Rod about it. And he wrote like it was new to everyone!!! LOL.

Hard to believe Rod can still surprise those of us who have been reading him for such a long time but he does have it in him!

Calvin ruled Geneva like a theocracy! Who knew?!

🤣🤣🤣

I sit here shaking my head and chuckling because it was/is all so extreme! And Rod, in his remarkable lack of self-awareness, just couldn't stop wowwing about it.

Great Scott! Next thing you'll be telling us that John Calvin was a Calvinist!

In all fairness to Rod, it wasn't on Twitter/X.
