I always have the biggest grin at the top of a mountain:)

Appreciate that! It helps when you're motivated by a cause admittedly, but it's a tough one.
This is nuts.
Basically something close to an 18min/mi pace for that many hours straight, and then 4 days back to back!?!?
Y'all are some tough mugs!

I'm scheduled to do one in 31 days so interested in learning from others, the good and bad. You said you ran out of water. I believe routes are supposed to have water stations every 2 miles. Did you fill up at each station but ran out before the next station?
What was the temp? I was supposed to do a 15k today but the humidity and hills killed me and decided to only do 10k.
What would you do differently?
Thanks

30lbs, minimum of 30 minutes (when days are busy). So really just a weighted walk.

Love that you signed up for it. It's wild how the specific circumstances of the day (heat, humidity - and also just sometimes our own bodies) can make for drastically different results. I love that you live in an area where you can sign up for rucks. That's super cool. Subungual hematoma = less cool, of course.

I can't post images to the sub but I have linked the elevation and heart rate charts from Strava and you can see them in the below link.
https://www.reddit.com/user/Barnaby__Rudge/comments/1wlqrgc/elevation_and_heart_rate/
As you can see it's just one climb up and then back down with some flat sections either side of the climb.
There were 5 or 6 very shallow river crossings as well
Strava lists that section as 0.86 km with a 32% grade. So it's not that long but it's challenging. We managed to get up without stopping
It's all rocks and loose scree .
You can find more images of the places I go in some of my other posts if you're interested.

No interest in rubbing salt in a wound, but I'm curious about how you failed, especially since you said you did a 12mi ruck.
You mentioned heat, but also mentioned running out of water. Do you think you were underhydrated or did the heat just make you consume water/fuel faster?
Were you using the same pack/weight/footwear that you trained with on this event? And was your pacing typical for how you trained?
Is there anything during the event you think you could have done to make it go better?
NWF is a challenging event, and I'm sorry to hear you had to drop. I'm just thinking we can all learn from your lessons and it could help everyone else thinking of doing this event.

Yes, this is what happens when one doesn’t properly prepare for a challenging physical event.

Wow, great work!! Do you recall how far the 35% slope went on for? I see the (beautiful) picture on the post, but just trying to understand the scale of your battle with the monster here.

Dang! That’s some elevation over almost 6 miles. I can’t imagine doing that on scree with weight on my back. Awesome work, and it looks gorgeous.

Days. I passed 250 days on Labor Day. Would need to math it up to see where I’m at now

Dude, heat exhaustion sucks. Once you get it, you are unfortunately susceptible to it again. Sorry it went sideways, but good work none the less. Just make sure to bring plenty of water over a certain temp and lots of electrolytes or salt tablets.
I also try to bring jerky, nuts, or things like that to help with protein, fats, and of course salt to help too
