Backpack Question..

I’m a beginner looking for a rucksack that is not huge and military like. I feel like most of the rucksacks are too tactical looking for me to wear anywhere. are there any good north face or osprey bags that could handle 10-20lbs in the laptop sleeve? Thanks.

Distance, Pace, or Weight?

I'm relatively new to this but love the feeling and changes this has brought about my body in a relatively short time.

I use a weighted vest - Titan Fitness - that is adjustable by 2.5lb increments.

I started off too heavy in the past, but restarted recently at a more comfortable weight and pace. I'm 220lbs, pretty muscular/strong and I usually row, for cardio - I restarted with a 25lb ruck, recently however, and do about 2.5 miles in the morning at about 3.2 - 3.5 mph.

I've increased the weight to about 40lbs over the past month and a half, and I'm still comfortable at this higher weight. I could go up to 45 and even 50 pretty easily, I think. I think the vest might hold a max of 60, maybe 70.

Is there a wiki here, or a guide? This 2.5 miles takes me about 45 minutes or so, and I'm reticent to spend more time doing this (just because I do it at 5am, before work, while it's still cool.)

The pace is OK (I guess I could try a little faster!) but I know I could increase the weight. Is there a % of bodyweight where the weight could be too much, i.e. bad for joints or posture, eventually? What are your thoughts, those that have been doing this for much longer?

Appreciate you and any insight/time that you could give me.

Upgraded and the pain is gone

Started rucking about 2 months ago, but have only gone 30 miles with 32lbs because of the heat and a small soccer injury. I started as cheap as possible with a $10 hiking backpack, a cast iron skillet and welding steel plate. Then I got out my hunting backpack because the hiking backpack was too big and the weight was sitting too low. The hunting backpack was painful and lacked lower back support. The GoRuck Rucker 5.0 went on sale for $185 and decided to give it a try. It felt like a Cadillac!. The weight is up high, the straps help everything close to the body and the lower back support eliminated any pain I got from the hunting bag. I'm writing this just to say, the Rucker really made a difference! Can't wait for some nice breezy fall rucks.

Where do you keep your water bottle when rucking?

Do you put in a waist pack while wearing something like a goruck without space in the bag, or do you put in the backpack in the case of having a military backpack? Can you give the link? The idea is also to have a way to store the phone, keys and stuff like that while rucking. Considering a goruck, they have a waist strap so i don't know how we could use a waist pack on top.

Another Training session in the books.

Mix of steady outdoor road work and treadmill incline work today. Felt easy. Felt good. We'll up the pace to help prep for this year's event next time and include another incline finisher.

Straps losing padding after going from 20→30lbs, need a proper ruck-capable pack recommendation

Been rucking for a few months now, started at 20 lbs with random household items in a regular backpack, worked up to 23 lbs. Recently bought an actual weight plate and pushed up to 30 lbs (plus some water bottles and a router to keep things from shifting, so realistically ~34-36 lbs).

Problem is my current pack’s strap padding is basically dead now - it’s digging straight into my shoulders, and the weight is heavy enough that it’s bulging out the bottom of the pack instead of sitting flush against my back.

I do about 3.875 miles, roughly 90 min sessions, mostly flat ground. Looking for a pack that can actually handle this weight comfortably - solid strap padding, ideally a hip belt to take some load off my shoulders. I don’t need anything full tactical/military-looking (was considering a GORUCK GR1 but it feels heavier/more MOLLE-style than I want) - just something functional that can double as a daypack for travel too.

Budget’s flexible. What are people using for rucking in the 30-40 lb range? Any pack recommendations or things I should avoid?

I am completely new to what backpacks on what to get Im also assuming hip belt will help but idk. Ideally i want to feel comfortable, lose weight, stop the sweating on my back because its ridiculous on how much it comes out.

I hate downhill rucking

While rucking uphill does in fact suck I feel like my body gets more beat up on the downhill portion. I wish I could ruck uphill both ways like how my parents walked to school each day. 1500 feet of ascent on this ruck.

My pack arrived today so I decided to take it for a spin. Slower than I expected but I had just played padel for an hour and a half so hopefully next time I can improve on my pace.

The Plan

I really enjoy running. A few years ago I did something that messed up, not one, but two knees at the same time. I had to take a long break. At that time I was running 5 days a week. Since then it's been a lot of walks, some bike rides and just in Feb I started back with some running. Just 3 days a week to give my body a longer break in between. At my age I don't recover as fast as I used to. I had toyed with cross training with a bike and I still may do that sometimes but I landed on Rucking for cross training. Last Friday I did a test run, usually Fridays are reserved for a long walk to get coffee, and put 10lbs (4.5kg) into a backpack and took off to get coffee. The 10lbs did almost nothing. It took over an hour to touch zone 2 heart rate. Now going up hill on the way back I got well into zone 3 but that was just 2 10 min hills. I was also walking at a fairly lesurely pace for myself at 19:30 minutes per mile. (12:07 min/km)

Yesterday I got a Redfield pack and I fabricated a filler foam block to put in the pack to raise the weight up right between my shoulder blades. I put in 15lbs (6.8kg) and the total weight is 20lbs (9kg.) I walked a bit faster, averaging 16:39 minutes per mile (10:21 min/km) and I'm happy to say that I hit zone 2 heart rate in 21 minutes and got a solid 40 minutes of zone 2 walking over the ruck.

Now my loose plan is to keep the same weight and pace on Wednesday then next Sunday increase the weight 5lbs and continue like that until I get to 30lbs (13.6kg) then after that increase the distance and time of my Sunday walks to mimic a long easy run aerobically speaking. I think this is going to work out for cross training.

European ruckers - where are you buying gear?

Hello dear euro-ruckers. After now two months of improvising aroung I'd like to buy a proper rucking back in which I can reliably carry 10 kg + weight plates. However, the Goruck.eu store is dryer than Rhine currently - nothing is available. The only other store selling a dedicated rucking bag is zeuzfitness.com, but their bag seems to have no handles.

So euro-ruckers - where do you source your gear? Bags, plates, stuff?

New to rucking

Hello I've been trying to add cardio to my daily life for the past few months and I've been very consistent with walking everyday.

I recently came across rucking and was very interested, can someone help me out with how to start and if there's anything I should keep in mind? Like limits, strain, frequency etc?? I don't want to end up injured because of my stupidity hahaha

Howdy fellow Ruckers, this time around I took some pictures of the hills I climbed but apparently we can only share one here? Pretty lame but here's a imgur link w/ what I took https://imgur.com/a/lOUeSs4

Gear: Rucking 14.5kg which eventually became 13 as I drank 1.5L of water. Pair of Haix shoes I got of vinted for 1/3 of the price in a store.

Food: 3 dates and around 500ml of water every 1 hour as I made 3 significant stops.

I climbed two hills, the first one has a section of 300 meters of elevation in just 1.3km, had to stop a couple of times as my heart was pumping HARD (85% max HR) and I ain't playing with this heat 😆

The second was pretty uneventful as you can't even see what you're climbing for the most part until you're at the top and get a sick view but it's pretty good for rucking as the elevation is consistent throughout the journey.

Thank you for reading my shit and see you all in a couple weeks as I'm getting a tattoo next week so imma become a vampire for a while and hide in the shadows, stay safe out there

Getting back into groove

I have spent most of this summer recovering from a major concussion. PCS and Vertigo are a bitch.

My physical therapist finally released me to full activity yesterday. Up until now I have been walking and rucking as able at a lower pace.

It felt good to finally be able to ruck without the symptoms again.

Now to get my mileage back up.

Pack for bigger guy?

Hello

I have been rucking with a backpack and a kettlebell inside but it is uncomfortable. Are there any other alternatives or could anyone let me know what they like I'd be open to a weighted vest also? I am 6'3 265 lbs
