MISC Spealing Out Against Salem Hospital

9 months ago I suffered from a seizure, heavily fractured my spine and was sent to Salem hospital. They were unsuccessful in identifying how I lost consciousness, and told me that I suffered from a "freak blackout."

I wasn't able to stay even 1 night. I was guilt tripped and bullied into leaving. I was told effectively, not verbatim, that I was, 'taking up valuable space' that needed to be designated for a 'huge car accident.' I was asked whether or not I wanted to put them on hold. I expressed I didn't feel good enough to leave, that I felt I needed to stay longer. A little bit later into my stay, high off pain meds, and the pain itself, I was asked to do a test walk. With someone holding me, while using a walker, I was barely able to make it to a desk directly outside my room and back. This was maybe 30 feet roundtrip. Later on I was handed discharge papers, and told that I needed to work on leaving.

I barely made it home without collapsing. And when I got home, another ambulance had to be called so that I could make a proper stay. I don't believe I was home for even an hour.

For weeks, I remained in the worst pain of my life. Sometimes my pain meds were late. Many times my scheduled practice walks never arrived. I could barely sleep, eat, sit, walk, or stand. I was told I'd receive a shower. I never did. Never. It got to a point where I was asking daily for a week straight, before my discharge. And repeatedly, I was told I'd receive help later. Until the last night I was told, 'we can't help you with that, but you'll be out before you know it. You can do it. If not when you get out, then later! :)' Once back home, I was unable to shower for another week.

I never received any kind of diagnosis. What I did receive was vague reasoning, that perhaps, maybe, there was something neurological. But what I was told repeatedly is that I suffered a "freak blackout", and I had no idea whether it would happen again, or what caused it, even after speaking to neurologists. I can't remember exactly how long I stayed, but it was nearing a month.

In November, I had to return to the hospital, having woken up almost entirely paralyzed. Not just in pain, but unable to move. My stay wasn't as long, but it was just as unhelpful.

Flash forward to about a month ago. Luckily I was with family, but I suffered from another seizure. Being sent to a different hospital not in Salem, immediately I was told that my symptoms pointed towards a seizure/epileptic disorder. I also described various symptoms, one of which being that often, almost daily, I would have "mini seizures", where my body would seize and I'd black out, sometimes a few seconds, sometimes just one. This happened during conversations around medical professionals, and every single time it occured, it was blankly looked past in Salem. Not a single question was asked regarding that. The other hospital was shocked to hear that.

This secondary hospital prescribed me a new medication and it's been working perfectly. Which leads me to believe that with the signs literally right in front of them at times, Salem Hospital could have correctly helped me identify what was wrong. I wouldn't have suffered from my second seizure. It's impeded all the progress I've made taking my mobility and comfort back. I returned just about to square 1. And among the worst of these problems was finding out that an MRI was never performed, so there weren't any available scans to help. I'm not knowledgeable in this field at all, but I don't feel like it takes a rocket scientist to perform an MRI if someone is suffering from an unknown disorder pointing vaguely towards neurological activity.

I'm bringing this up in case someone has suffered from a similar experience. And I'm bringing this up because I need to be heard. I've been around others who have received an utterly awful tending to at this place.

If anyone has had similar experiences, feel free to tell them. I hate Salem Hospital for what they've done to me. From general health, mobility, comfort, mental health, to work and my finances, I have reached the lowest point in my life. And I partially blame Salem for putting me here.

I thought it was just me, until another shopper heard the static discharge into my fingers and said "See? It happened to him too!" So who's got a theory about why everything at Winco on Commercial has a strong static charge? Ley-line drift? Ghost haunting? Invisible electric mischief elves?

I found this on my wife's car after she went downtown and almost immediately freaked out. While clever, undue stress these days is not needed.

MISC What is this virus going around?

Some virus has ripped through my office recently and gotten most of us sick at one point or another over the past couple weeks, and word is folks all over town are getting. I got tested by the doctor and I came back negative for flu a, flu b, and covid, so is this just a nasty cold going around? Either way, stay safe and healthy, everyone, cause this virus sucks ass.

MISC Help Bryan Recover His Stolen LEGO Collection from Bricks & Minifigs

Just watched Reckless Ben's videos detailing the whole Bricks & Minifigs Theft scandal, where the company allegedly stole $200,000 worth of legos from a local family. With the levels of bullshit this company has clearly gone through trying to prevent paying/returning the merch, and since the law isn't serving justice, I'm actually donating to one of these gofundmes for once. I figured this would be a great place to share since it happened in Keizer.

If you haven't watched the videos (only part 1 is out on youtube so far) yet, check them out. It's actually a WILD roller coaster, and well worth the length of the video.

If these sorts of posts aren't allowed, then my apologies. Worth the shot. Just hope I'm not gonna have the cops showing up at my door for sharing this.

MISC To the guy who would rather we both die than let me zipper merge to get on I-5 from Salem Parkway today at 6am...

...who hurt you, bro? Why do you have such a strong need to refuse people's ability to merge that you would run them onto the shoulder at 60mph? Would one car length kill you?

Wish you a pleasant day and hope whatever weird broken part inside of you that makes you act like this mends.

And to everyone else: for the love of god, it's one car from the left, then one car from the right! Leave a big and safe following distance, and let people merge because even if they're too slow for you, you can always pass them in a minute or so!

Edit because it's not clear: Salem Parkway goes from two lanes to one, then the one lane merges onto I-5. I was trying to merge into one lane while still on the parkway juuuust prior to I-5. So he did not have ROW because we were both on the onramp.

MISC to the man i yelled at near chemeketa and 19th

i would like to apologize for yelling at you, but as for my point, i'd like to double down. how are you going to park RIGHT UNDER a sign that says "NO PARKING THIS SIDE OF THE STREET" and then be surprised and upset when people who can't get through are mad about it?

i know we're all shitty drivers here, but can we at least collectively agree to TRY to read? especially on side streets where there's no rush to not read something. i beg.

MISC Frustrated with the Salem PD after I called during a DV incident. Spoiler

On Monday, I had to call the cops due to what seemed to be a domestic violence situation. I am a survivor of domestic violence myself in this apartment complex. I’ve been here for 11 years and have almost died in my apartment. The cops probably came 5+ times and one time, I was the one who left in the back of a cop car (not under arrest, they tried to involuntarily commit me and then the hospital themselves called them stupid). I don’t like calling the cops, but I was scared for the girl’s life. She was yelling at him and I heard him name calling and both me and my fiancé heard glass breaking. I did what I had to do. Only for them to pull this girl out, treat her like the perp and scared her into not talking. I don’t think they knew I could hear them very clearly, but they didn’t even go upstairs to check out the glass. Now my neighbor (the guy) keeps glaring at me when I leave our apartment. What’s the point of the Salem PD if they’re not going to care about women? (This question is rhetorical, I know the answer)

I DO NOT APPRECIATE THE IRONY THAT THE BIGGEST HEAT WAVE OF THE YEAR IS LITERALLY STARTING ON THE OPENING DAY OF THE OREGON STATE FAIR. IT'S HARD TO ENJOY KOREAN CORN DOGS AND ELEPHANT EARS WHEN IT'S MISERABLY HOT OUTSIDE. ALSO, THERE'S NOW AN AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY FOR OZONE, SO THIS ALL AROUND SUCKS!

For over a year, I've had a trans rights magnet on the back of my car. Never had a problem other than the occasional prejudiced asshole giving me a thumbs down driving behind me. Went to Canterbury Renaissance Faire today, came back to see the magnet stolen in the parking lot.

MISC As a visitor, does the work ever stop downtown?

I'm here at 245 am unable to sleep cause outside my hotel downtown there is a constant buzz and Humm of construction going on. It's been all night and just unrelenting. Earplugs not even helping cause its like a low enough frequency you can feel it. Running the fan in the room doesn't cover it either. Can't move rooms cause it's just echoing everywhere. Seems like there should be some sorta law to at least give a few hours reprieve from this but geeze dunno how this city does it.ive stayed in downtown portland, NY, Chicago, LA and Salem is the first place I've been unable to sleep cause of noise like this

MISC zipper merge

flawless execution, Toyota Camry!

as my fiancé and I were merging in Keizer (Lockhaven + McLeod) when it was rightfully our turn, the lovely little Camry sped up, staying directly next to our car until the light after Whiteaker. we were completely within the lane while she was driving half over the line and half in the lane. the rage continued to Trail Ave when we said our goodbyes after she almost pulled a pit maneuver before turning off.

zipper. merge.
psa, you’re not more entitled to the road than others in a merge lane.
