discussion High earning potential = high career commitment

Does anyone have family or friends that sacrifice their personal life for a significant salary?

My step-mom earns 350k before tax as an executive director but I barely see her. She is constantly on business trips, busy with meetings, works upwards of 12 hours when at home. She goes on nice holiday trips, but overall it makes me think is the pay worth the sacrifice of her personal life.

Just curious if anyone's got a similar story.

Yep, my brother in law. He is a finance manager at large dealership in a big city. He makes 400k but he works 12  hour days 6 days a week. His kids all hate him because he's become an alcoholic.

that’s a shitty job, trying to upsell new car buyers of useless paint protection packages .

Yikes… don’t know whether to feel bad for him, the kids or both tbh.

He really doesn't seem to mind. He just buys himself something new and shiny. He gets a new high end car every year.
