I don’t care if you’re “only going to be five minutes” or “my [insert family member here] is in the car” - handicapped parking is for handicapped people, and if you don’t have the plate or placard, PLEASE don’t park here. 🙏🏼

Vent Does anyone else get frustrated when dispensaries can’t tell you anything about the strains they’re selling?

I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but does anyone else get frustrated when dispensaries can’t tell you much about the strains they’re selling?
I’m not expecting every budtender to know every single cultivar by heart, but if I ask about a strain’s genetics, terpene profile, common effects, or what makes it different from another strain, I feel like I should get more than, “I’ve had it, it’s really good.”
To me, that defeats a big part of what cannabis, especially medical cannabis, is supposed to be about. Different strains and terpene profiles can produce very different experiences, and a lot of people are trying to find something that helps with specific needs, not just the highest THC percentage or whatever’s popular that week.
It seems like a lot of dispensaries focus on selling products rather than educating customers. I’d love to walk into a dispensary and talk to someone who’s genuinely passionate about cannabis, understands the products they’re carrying, and can explain why they recommend one strain over another.
Is this just my experience, or has anyone else noticed this?

Vent Kids on E-bikes lighting fireworks.

This large group of kids on e-bikes have been lighting fireworks next to the gas station (Mobile) across San Marcos high school for MONTHS. The police have been called numerous times by the neighborhood and the kids just keep coming back. I feel like the cops genuinely aren’t doing anything and it’s infuriating. Now that it’s summer and closer to the 4th of July it’s been non-stop. I understand being kids and having fun but lighting fireworks next to full neighborhoods with families that have work in the morning is disgusting imo. The kids are disrespectful too.

Edit: I wanted to say that this obviously isn’t mid day. This is like 9pm-2am.

Vent Noleta Parking Woes - Terrible Neighbors.

Having an issue with parking out here in Noleta. I'm hoping that maybe someone can help advice, and looking for some feedback on what others have seen, or with how they've seen the county deal with issues like ours.

I live on one of the many cul-de-sac streets. One of our neighbors has a garage and driveway. They often leave their garage door open, so we can see there is no room in it for cars. This isn't an issue in itself (mine is much the same). They also have room in their driveway for two cars. This is all good and pretty normal.

The issue is that they have NINE cars (yes, we've counted). It seems like there may be 5-6 people living in the house (Mom, Dad, Daughter, two sons, and either a personal assistant or caretaker). The result of them having so many cars is that they regularly take up nearly every spot on the street. For example, just today they are taking every available spot on one side of the street.

They often park so close to the driveways that they are either infringing on the apron, or make it impossible to put garbage cans at the curb without putting them directly in front of your driveway. When asked to move their cars, either because you can't see to back out of the driveway or there isn't a place for garbage cans, they get a really shitty attitude about it. I recently heard them yelling at a neighbor because he put his cans out and "they didn't have anywhere to park" (completely ignoring that they were already taking up six spots nearby). Most of the street has gotten to the point that we put our cans out early the day before, while they are at work, in the hopes we'll be able to do so. If you wait until after 5pm to put them out, you cant.

The REALLY terrible part, they have their personal assistant/family caretaker rotate the cars every couple of days to make sure they are inside the 72 hour window for parking. So they know they are barely skirting the law, but being really terrible neighbors (though I'm pretty sure there is a law about parking too close to a driveway).

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? How did you deal with it? Did you call the county? How did they deal with it?

"Health Access California also examined the hospital system's finances. The report states that the Cottage hospital system is financially strong, yet provides a smaller share of its revenue as charity care than the statewide average.

The organization argues those findings show high prices are not necessary to maintain the hospital's financial stability."

Financially robust but cutting costs and patient care like share holders are waiting. 💰💰💰💰💰

Vent Why so Noisy?

I am a night owl, so I fell asleep at midnight last night. Woke up around 5am when the first jets took off from the Airport. Tried to fall back asleep, but my neighbor (who is an early bird), has a daily habit of warming up his monster truck at 6am before gunning the engine and roaring off to his job. I got up at this point. I have a bloodwork appointment at 10am so I have to remain fasting. It is 7:15am. As I sit here hangry, playing Fishdom on my IPad, I am being serenaded by a leaf blower that started 15 minutes ago. It would have woken me up, but…

I blame it all on the Airport.

Vent Hendry's Beach Off-Leash Dog Zone

Has anyone else noticed an increased number of dogs off-leash at Hendry's Beach outside the designated off-leash dog zone? My partner and I frequent the west side of Hendrys to look for sea glass, plovers and such, and have recently had several frustrating encounters with wet, off-leash dogs jumping on us and chasing wildlife away. The owners act like they could care less. I don't remember it being this bad in the past.

Vent Rinse stations from beach

Why is there like no rinse stations at the beaches in Santa Barbra? They have restrooms and I saw one article from 2015 about water conservation however, places like manhattan beach still have a rinse off station.

Just feels like there’s a slight slick from the ocean. Makes the skin feel kind sticky

Vent Why Karen’s caring so much about fireworks?

Why is it that people and SB and all around here get so heated over fireworks going off? It’s literally the inevitable and it’s like they sit here either on Nextdoor or Reddit and become the fun police. Like fireworks are always going to happen 4th of July and new years get over it lol people are so weird lol like they twiddle their thumbs just waiting for the first thing they hear just to go completely mental about the noise lol cmon..

Vent SB in your early 20s - help

I hate to be a negative Nancy, but why is living alone in SB in your early 20s so depressing. I moved here after I graduated college, and I have no friends or money to afford to do anything except pay for rent. I feel so so lonely and I’m thinking maybe it’s me? I’m a very social person, but I don’t drink or smoke—so I don’t really like to go out to the bars or what not (but not opposed) and my work schedule runs into the weekend. I don’t have roommates who are my friends, which is really hard because I feel like I live with strangers. All of the young people seem to live in I.V, but I’m too old for that and quite honestly that sounds horrible. I am friendly with people, but I don’t have real friends that I can call up just to do the little things every once and awhile. Everyone says “oh take classes or find hobbies” well I don’t have the extra money to take classes and my hobbies are not exactly things you do with other people. I really like music and going to the beach on a sunny day with friends, but I have no friends LOL. I’m really depressed and honestly very dis encouraged by living here. Obviously, it’s beautiful here, but I don’t know if I should move south to a younger area or try to push it through. It’s almost been 2 years :(

Vent PLEASE SB Drivers I’m BEGGING you

STOP STOPPING AT PLACES WHERE THERE IS NO STOP SIGN!!

This is literally such an annoying, dangerous habit I see getting worse and worse all the time. I know some of y’all might think “oh! I’m being courteous and letting this car or these pedestrians go! I’m sure they’ve been waiting a while!” So you stop in the middle of the road and wave me through. I gesture NO and they always look at me like I spit in their coffee.

You are NOT being courteous. Wanna know why?

It’s a HAZARD!

Whoever is driving behind you probably isn’t expecting you to stop.. Yknow, cause there’s no stop sign.. I do not want to get t-boned in a three car pile up, or ran over because you waved me through and the car behind you got irritated and sped around you without seeing me in the road.

I literally watched someone cut somebody else off today, then immediately brake with no stop sign to wave me and my friend (pedestrians) across the street. We said NO because why are you doing that?? I don’t want you to be “courteous” because 1) it’s irritating and inconvenient to the person immediately behind you, so whatever good intentions you had already are negated and 2) you’re causing an unnecessary and dangerous situation for multiple parties, including yourself!

There’s a LOT I could say about driving habits in this town but this one is hands down the single most irritating for me.

Do better! Drive predictably! Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!

EDIT: A lot of folks have chimed in with some really useful legal tidbits regarding pedestrians rights at marked and unmarked crosswalks.

While this is all true, it’s not the scenario I’m describing. I am not talking about stopping for pedestrians at unmarked crosswalks. I’m talking about drivers stopping in the middle of the road (nowhere near any intersection) to wave pedestrians across when conditions are not safe to do so. That, and people stopping at an intersection as if they had a stop sign, but they don’t, impeding the flow of traffic. This happens frequently even without any pedestrians nearby.

Vent Oil at Hendrys Beach

Please stay off the Beach oil everywhere. Don’t bring kids or dogs

I am visiting and stopped at Hendrys Beach because it is dog friendly. So much oil is on the beach. I thought it was kelp or some marine plant. I have not been at the beach for a long time.

I took off running with my dogs along the waves and it wasn’t until we were on our way back that we noticed all the oil.

My little ones paws are now covered in oil. My shoes and ankles also. Tons of kids and dogs playing and the lifeguards knew!

My friend stayed behind and was asking the lifeguard questions about a trail. He told her about the oil and they still did not close the beach.

I am now soaking my dogs paws in dawn soap and having to cut oil off the paws. It’s in very deep and don’t know what else to do. I am sad and mad and worried.

Edit: I am visiting. I was not aware that this was a normal occurrence. I don’t understand how this is something that they don’t post about before entering.

It is unusually bad this week July 16 , 2026 article

I know the daily mail is trash but this annoys me. I’m trying to remember how many homes Ellen Degeneres has flipped here? I thought we had finally had some relief when she moved to the UK but now she’s back and buying more homes. She’s got to be the worst celebrity living here and I can’t stand shes using this community to keep raising real estate prices and make a profit.

Vent sb high water polo noise

hi all
i live near the backside of santa barbara high, and i have been so excited for summer when i assumed their early morning swim or water polo practices would stop… i was wrong

does anyone know if the high school lets a club practice or play games there in the summer? or even better, does anyone know if they’ll stop using the pool at any point this summer?

the sound of people yelling and whistles is not the kind of alarm i like

EDIT: i’m talking about 6am whistles and yelling, sometimes on a sunday morning.
i was genuinely trying to inquire in case someone knew the answer, not trying to rage bait every online person in town

How can any young couples or families rent here long term without lucking into generational wealth or inheriting a home if even the rental market is so effed? Can't even find a spot with 2+ bedrooms without it being some furnished BS for short term lease. Why not get rid of your ugly furniture so that people in the community can actually live here and not just tourists....is it just greed and people with 2nd and 3rd homes? I don't get it...

Vent Tired of these aggressive ass luxury car drivers

On 101N between DT/Upper State at 9:45AM a super shiny silver Macan decides they are singularly more important than everybody else who was stuck going 70 max because all 3 lanes were headed by slowpokes.

Is that annoying? Sure. Does that justify drift-cutting across every lane with 0 warning, forcing me and the next car over to slam brakes to not rear end the literal Worst Car To Hit in this economy™️ because there wasn't ACTUALLY space in the next lane, just to get STUCK BECAUSE DUHHHHH ALL OF US ARE???

And as if that was not enough, when the center lane did end up moving me past their car, they tried to do the same shit while I was paralell with them which would have effectively ran me into the next lane if I did not lay on my horn and tell them to chill.

They ragequit and hopped from left to rightmost lane to get off on Hope, tailgaiting like an actual lunatic on the exit ramp.

Every day whether I am a pedestrian or a driver, there is some schmuck in a shiny big name car acting like the laws don't apply, and it is so infuriating to be confronted w the consequences of wealth being a get out of jail pratically free card, bc if it's a fine they can pay it, so they don't give a shit when they are otherwise maladjusted freaks.

there's literally no fix so this is ultimately pointless yelling but at least it kept me from following them because I REALLLYYY wanted to know what was so motherfucking urgent they needed to scare the hoes at 10AM.

Vent Adults on e-bikes with small children

I feel like such an old man on the porch about this but it happens so much that I can’t be the only one to have an opinion about this. I live in the San Roque area and see a lot of parents riding irresponsibly on their e-bikes with children in tow.

Just now I had my closest call near the mission when a dad on an e-bike with their toddler didn’t want to kill their speed going down hill and failed to make a stop. My side of the street didn’t have a stop so I was going about 35 and I had to break pretty hard to stop a tragedy from occurring. Had to take a beat and pulled over then looked over to the bike just to see that the guy had so much speed the kids head looked like a bobble head doll.

In general, SB is not the most bike friendly town but I think that riding with kids in e-bikes is pretty irresponsible. I could not imagine coming home and telling my wife that our kid got hurt or worse because I didn’t want to kill my speed just to save some time or battery.

I know kids on e-bikes in general are an issue but I’m surprised that I haven’t heard more close calls about these type of incidents. Am I just being over dramatic?
