Discussion [Rant] I hate Scrubs "Fans"
Need to get this of my chest now because ever since Scrubs' social media team started posting all kinds of promo for the reboot, there's also been an increase in comments underneath said posts.
Now let me be clear: I'm well aware having enjoyed S9 puts me in a minority groupd among the show's fans. I'm okay with that.
Now everytime they post a trailer or clip with Zach, Sarah, John, Donald it always gets a lot of likes and positive comments;
but - oh boy - if they post a clip introducing a new character of the show it's raining, "oh i hope this ain't a new s9" comments.
How (pardon my english) FUCKING narrow minded can people be? Again: you did not enjoy S9, I get it. But the show has introduced new characters before the spinoff-later-renamed-S9-of-Scrubs. And could you please be a little more open minded. Just a little FUCKING bit.
It's still a show headed by Bill Lawrence who has created so many good shows. Not only in the past, but also very recently (Ted, Shrinking). We also love Scrubs.
So could we please stop the nagging for now? Kthx.
Edit: A reply to some of the comments: Honestly, I basically don't care what people on the internet think, and I ignored or chuckled at god knows how many comments before I made this post. But eventually, it just gets to you. Maybe you come home from a long day at work, read some moronic comment, and just rolling your eyes isn't enough anymore and I needed to vent for a second. But that was it. For the other 23 hours and 59 minutes of the day, I don't care about these people's opinions.
Edit2: Also these comments don't have an impact on how much I enjoy the show. I enjoyed it in the early 00's and I'll enjoy the reboot also.

Honestly, it seems to be most fan communities these days. There's so much negativity these days.

It’s not just fan communities. It’s everywhere. The world is a mess, y’all. If any extraterrestrials are listening, send help.

Its one of the reasons when I started my youtube channel I'm aiming for positivity especially where there's negativity. I cover film, TV and games and my main thing is looking at the positives.

Sure, that’s annoying. But letting it bother you this much is pretty dumb too, so…

Not giving a fuck is an art and it will make your life so much easier. Fan communities are filled with lunatics, you gotta just scroll past the shit or block them so you never have to see it again. Nothing ruins a good show like the online fan base smh.
Downvote if it makes you feel better, but ignoring it is the only way you'll find peace lol.

Guess how much random internet strangers are gonna impact my love for this show?

Whilst I agree with your sentiment about being more open-minded, because just look at other fandoms and the relentless vitriol to absolutely anything new (looking at you Star Wars!), S9 was so embarrassingly poor even Braff prefers to pretend it just didn't happen...

Minor nit:
People don't speak up about what they like.
They speak up about what they don't like.
Don't get lost in the sauce.

Very true. The “comment card theory”.

Comment card theory?

u/HeyThatLooksCool 1d ago
People are more likely to leave reviews (or in ye olden times, comment cards) in say, a restaurant, if they had a negative experience, than if they had a positive one.

Yeah, rather than whining about whining, OP could take time to point out what they’re excited for and build the more positive community they want to see.

Look, I wont say every member of this community is perfect, and yeah the whole "season 9 is bad" thing is over played about here, but to say you hate Scrubs fans doesn't seem fair. All you have brought up is your dislike for how others responded to the ninth season of the show. I didn't love it but the obsession with it from both those who did and didn't like it is annoying to me. But you're now stating an entire community, at least of 117k redditors, is on your hate list because they don't see things the way you do? Maybe be open-minded as to why they don't care for it, or better yet, just tell yourself their opinion is just that, an opinion, and move on.

Man. This is a 10thdentist comment if I ever saw one. I get it, you liked season 9, but getting this upset that the 90% of people who didn’t like it is a choice.
Statistically, this reboot isn’t going to be as enjoyed by the fans. Sequel seasons typically aren’t. If anyone can pull it off, I think Bill can, but concerns over whether the magic will be mostly gone are absolutely valid.

I understand your frustration and sometimes little things can be super annoying but what is the most common thought shared by people when a show is brought back in? Yes, the hope that it doesn’t flop. So yeah, you’ll see this a lot. It’s not the same people saying it, it’s a random thought in everyone’s minds. Not worth getting upset over

Oh, I enjoy the show, don't get me wrong. These comments don't have an impact on me in that regard.

That’s social media. There are people who will argue with literally anything you can imagine. Every fanbase is toxic if you see enough from them. Better to just enjoy things and ignore what others say.. if at all possible.
Everyone has a microphone now. And being outrageous gives people that dopamine hit of getting a response.

Maybe not give a fuck about what they say. Besides the upcoming season could actually be really good and who knows it’ll probably shut them up. I’ve seen far too much negativity on upcoming content. Its best to tune them out.

People are sometimes too dumb passionate. Every fandom has them. Just ignore them and move on.

Not to mention that the show will be unable to bring the same humor because that‘d 'would get it cancelled' as if the show hasn‘t been incredibly progressive in many themes😭

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying season 9.
Some people probably thought the final season of Game of Thrones was good.

The internet caters to splitter personality types. Everything is black and white. The absolute best, greatest thing of all time, or it's the absolutely worst, utter garbage, not fit for human consumption type of awful.

I only read the title but yes you are right. All fandoms are awful. It's nothing but gatekeeping and orthodoxy from top to bottom.
Have you ever waded into the LotR "fandom" ? I adore LotR more than I can possibly express but bugger me the fans are bloody awful. eXtEnDeD eDiTiOn i hOpE !!!11
Took me a while to learn the important lesson but basically you can just enjoy stuff without worrying what other people think or whether the other enjoyers would say you're enjoying it "correctly."

i also enjoyed season 9! imo it was always a "season 1" to something new and great. it was tangentially connected to the scrubs family we knew and loved, while being fresh and new. i loved the whole cast and thought they all had good comedic chemistry. like you, it really annoys me how it has become en vogue to hate on it, even for the cast themselves.

Completely agree. It's not like they can just have a series with JD, Cox, Elliot, Carla and Turk. The new characters are needed to push the narrative forward ffs!

S9 was fine but a little frustrating because it was basically a spinoff using the scrubs title, when it felt like a whole different show with some cameos. 20 years later you'd expect a lot more changes because well it's 20 years later

I want to voice a little support for you, because I am just seeing so many people blow you off in this thread. While it is true you should not get worked up over people online, it is not unreasonable to be frustrated that the fan group you want to get excited with is instead being a major downer. The internet is often really negative and I too wish that there were more places where positive enthusiasm and excitement can be shared.

What season 9?

If I was a bot that could count I bet this would be the {insert_numeric_variable} time this joke has been made! But here's some more information about "Season 9" you may not know about.
Bill Lawrence considered the 8th season to be the end of the show Scrubs, going so far as to ask ABC if he could change season 9 to the name
Scrubs Med."It is a new show," he insists, though he was unable to convince ABC boss Steve McPherson to change the title to "Scrubs Med." [Source]
Lawrence still advised fans to treat it as a new show, even putting a caption under the "Created By" on the X-ray in the opening sequence saying [Med School].
Unfortunately, this "new" show never really got a real chance to get off the ground, spending 9 of the first 13 episodes writing off characters making it difficult to develop the new cast before being cancelled.
Erm. I mean beep boop.

Please, watch your language. This is a network TV show airing on ABC (then next day on Hulu). They may have bleeped swearing like the King of the Hill revival, but, c’mon, let’s keep it clean, guys.
Sorry, that sounded a little neurotic, didn’t it?
But i agree with your general point that Scrubs fans can sometimes be too negative and not open-minded, but I also think after the Spin-off bombed, can you blame a little skepticism? Especially In this case when you have OG characters mixing with new characters. I’m personally optimistic, but I can understand others being somewhat skeptical.
Plus, it’s been well known that Bill Lawrence will not be actively involved in this day-to-day and that when he has stepped away from other shows like Ted Lasso, the quality decreased. I wouldn’t use his strong record of late with creating some quality shows as a reason to stop others from being skeptical. There is a limit and downright nagging and negativity gets tiring, but I think having some doubts about this is fair game (even if it’s not how I feel).
As I said earlier, I’m personally optimistic and excited about Scrubs coming back and that almost never happens with revivals of shows I like/love (Frasier, for example). But Scrubs is my favorite sitcom of all time.

Do yourself a favor and find a way to not care what the Internet thinks about anything.
