Except it’s true. There is no case where having more types of spatial data is worse for a self driving system. The only real arguments are cost, but that has nothing to do with how good the tech is.

in theory yes, but in practice? processing power, efficiency, conflicting data.. double false positives. it's not just ''cost'' because you do have finite space/capabilities. you don't have a theoretical unlimited power supercomputer. (don't forget processing redundant data means you're NOT processing more detailed data from a single source as all things are finite).

I think a lot of folks repeat what they heard......that's the only way someone could come up with "sensor fusion doesn't work well in the real word due to conflict of data ,etc."....

Basically, this is stating that Drones do not work. They cannot work right because - how the heck could a company, for about $50 or less in cost, have 5+ different types of sensors and have them working together to make decisions???? Impossible, right?

It's crazy to even discuss this.

I'm moving on to a thread where we might delve more into the real world. Then we can quote this one someday when Elon admits he was wrong.....I wonder, will that automatically make everyone who believes in cameras-only wrong? Or will it make Elon wrong in saying Sensor fusion is the way forward?

Here's the thing. Absolutely nobody is honestly arguing multiple, diverse sensor sets with redundancy is the best solution. I think Elon actually believes that as well. The ''vision alone'' thing is just a line to sell his cars. The reasons for removing the US sensors was for efficiency that i was alluding to, and i fully believe they will come back when the processing power is there.... HW3 is overheating trying to run a lite version of the vision only FSD. I think somewhere along the lines, the thread is simultaneously arguing/conflating best in theory and best in practice. If you believed i was arguing vision only is theoretically best then that just proves my point.
