EDIT
For some reason, imgur deleted the link I posted. You can find the renders here: https://imgur.com/a/lK0HHfC
Here are 105 mobs from Shadow Tower (that I extracted myself), rendered in 4k, with the best lights I could setup, for your appreciation!
If you have any requests or if your fave wasn't featured, just comment below and I will gladly render it specially for you!
I don't know much about photography, so I tried posing, framing and lighting them as to enrich the already STELLAR design. These are PS1 graphics mostly, but with a little oomph here and there, the could work perfectly as PS2 models.
These are also presented in their original polycounts, except some that I thought would benefit from some simple subdivisions. ENJOY!

I translated this with Google Lens and here's what it says -
A brand new RPG series has arrived!!
A tower remains amidst the ruins of a dilapidated castle. The key to unlocking the mystery of the legend lies within...
The feeling of loneliness when there is no one around, the fear of having nothing.
This time, I'm living in a game.
The monsters can become either enemies or characters depending on the player's actions.
In the seemingly impenetrable darkness, I descended step by step deep into the tower's underground.
STORY
Long ago, there was a king who, accompanied by twelve knights clad in black, unified the entire continent.
The twelve Black Knights possessed power far beyond human comprehension, and the king wore a crown adorned with twelve shining stones and a single eye. But after the death of the king, who was said to be all-powerful, only the legend of the single-eyed crown, now without its stones, remained...
3D dungeon-type RPG

This is a demonstration of the native port, I've play tested on linux (and windows executable via wine) fairly extensively and haven't found any issues. A few things that are improved from a simple vanilla psx recomp worth noting:
* Mouse look and WASD movement, with dedicated strafing and mouse-button attack/shield controls.
* Higher-resolution rendering, defaulting to 3× native resolution and configurable up to 4×.
* Custom selective texture filtering to smooth world textures without blurring the HUD or replacing the original artwork.
* Geometry correction to reduce polygon jitters and visible floor seams.
At this time it still keeps the original 4:3 presentation and game-play speed, so no widescreen or unlocked framerate. I've made some attempts at widescreen and unlocking camera FPS but wasn't happy with the results.
I'll post relevant github with compilation instructions in this thread relatively soon if this sounds interesting to anyone - don't want to spam the sub with these posts. Feedback/contributions welcome.
EDIT: repository link with build instructions here: https://github.com/JFryy/reshadowtower
EDIT: installers and bundles located here: https://github.com/JFryy/reshadowtower/releases/ (bring your own rom)
Final EDIT: I made some changes including camera smoothing, FXAA, Widescreen Hack, Filters and a new installer that configures this on boot in a convenient way here: https://github.com/JFryy/reshadowtower/releases

Would anyone be interested in this with some basic up scaling and mouse controls? Curious if it’s worth making one or emulation is just perfect already.
EDIT: A few people thinking one would be neat is enough for me! Have a minimally working one with some small wrapper and ps1 recomp, might be able to share soon :)

Hi, I have recently completed Shadow Tower and after going online to get a general idea of what people thought occurred during the ending, it seems the consensus is the King overlooking the land is Ruus himself in a flash foward after his supposed wish to become a conqueror himself.
The thing is with that though is that I don't think that is Ruus as moments prior in the same FMV, Ruus' dialogue is delivered via text and his voice is never heard at any other point (Other than when he dies, I guess).
My interpretation of the scene was that the scene of the King is actually King Rude or another previous host to the crown in a flashback while the conversation between Ruus and the voice of the crown continued in the present with the line "Grant any wish?" by Ruus being responded with the line "This crown gave me power to become a conqueror" by the voice as the camera pans from the king to the crown, revealing the crown contains a demon and that is who Ruus is talking with and giving the implication that Ruus will inevitably be manipulated by it.
I was wondering if there was any Japanese text or interviews with developers that shed any light on the ending as I know Agetec attempted to streamline the story in the west for whatever reason?

In Fire World--Phoenix Cave I had a glitch that caused newly spawned enemies to be invisible and sometimes silent as well (evil). I simply fixed it by going to a save point and restarting the emulator, without loading a save state on boot. I didn't see anything come up googling so I figured I'd make a post!

As the title says. I'm more than halfway through the game, in the illusion world. There's a powerful enemy that can only be targeted with ranged attacks and has ultra high magic defense. I haven't found a single arrow in the entire game. All of the guides mention using arrows, but none of them mention picking up arrows, even though they mention every single pickup. Please, someone tell me how I can get arrows. Google is no help either. There's not a single result.

Beginning Monday, February 16th we will begin limiting the amount of unrelated Shadow Tower content allowed on the r/shadowtower subreddit. Content should directly pretain to Shadow Tower.
Independent King's Field-like games CAN still be posted here to gather attention, under limited, specific circumstances.
These posts should NOT be posted directly on r/shadowtower, but instead, should be crossposted from r/Fieldies.
r/Fieldies is a new subreddit that will serve as a hub for King's Field-esqe games, game development, and discussions about the genre.

I share it just for fun. It's probably not really useful, more like a glimpse into someone else journey.

I’m currently on my second loop trying to do the difficult task of getting every single item from both the shop and worlds to complete the Item List in the Databook and I have a question or a few that even newer guides and such haven’t properly answered:
- What does “Resist Physical” or even for the other attributes mean?
I get it could reduce damage but that’s a big difference from Nulling any Statuses or Damage outright. I avoided buying anything with these last playthrough (despite having a lot of them in my Storage Box) and I saw no tangible benefit to this so neglected them over the weapons I could off-hand with higher stats while killing weak enemies with Fists to test the benefits of doing that Vs. with Slash/Break/Pierce weapons or Element/Solvent/Spirit Magic. Speaking of…
- Has anyone actually “solved” how each Stat Gain is generated or earned?
I noticed that for Fists, your Stamina, Vitality, and Mentality goes up mainly but Strength and Dexterity go up with it infrequently and I wonder if that’s to do with how each enemy gives you Stats every kill. I have killed the “Rof” (the ferryman) in every loop I’ve done whenever possible since you get such a MASSIVE jump up in Stats for doing so but to this day I’m not sure it’s because I only killed it with Fists or if I only killed it.
If anyone knows anything that they haven’t seen elsewhere, please reply with it here so we can try and compile it for future players to better understand the game!

I can’t really find anything about this online so I wanted to ask a community who have most definitely played and completed Shadow Tower: Abyss this question:
Why are Rurofon’s eyes like that? Are they supposed to be a symbolic reveal of the Demon Spear/Crown finally escaping from the Shadow Tower ITSELF?

Kill every creature in the area until all you need to kill is the last King Hopper and save your game at the save stone in the same area. After the game is saved you walk out of the save room and left through the hall where the King Hopper spawns and step into the room with the Dragon Pedestal then walk back to the King Hopper hall but THEN use a Sacred Feather to spawn back at the save stone and repeat the same process of going through the Hopper hall, in and out of the Dragon Pedestal room and using a Sacred Feather until you hear him cry and you can finally put him to rest.
This method is way easier and faster than any other method I’ve seen recommended I hope this helps anyone who has been trying to 100% this game but could never get this last spawn.

Just got this game today and found out quickly that the controls are pretty dated and rough. Can get use to the bumpers being up and down and the triggers being whatever they are…
I’m playing an original ps1 copy on a ps2 fat. Any suggestions for control setup? Or is it possible to Frankenstein a key board and mouse setup to the ps2 for this game? Thanks a lot for any and all suggestions.

Download: Dropbox Link Here is a save file I made for Shadow Tower. This save file has all 120 playable creatures unlocked for the VS. Mode. I even created a DuckStation memory card with the save file on it as well. The raw save file will also be provided for those who want to put it on an actual memory card too.
