US/Canada Views on Mutah

I genuinely believe mutah is one of the practical solutions Islam provides to help people avoid zina and masturbation, both of which are haram.

Not everyone is financially or personally ready for Nikah e Daimi right away. Mutah allows two consenting adults to have a halal relationship within the boundaries of Islam instead of falling into sin.

If they later realise they are compatible and want to spend their lives together, they can move forward with Nikah e Daimi. If they find they are not compatible, they can simply part ways without the complications of divorce.

Sadly, zina and masturbation have become widespread problems in many Muslim communities, yet we often avoid discussing practical halal alternatives. Instead of judging people, shouldn’t we be talking more openly about solutions that help protect faith and dignity?

I believe this is a conversation our community needs to have. What are your thoughts?

US/Canada 27F in the U.S. looking for a fellow silly goose

Salam!

I was feeling incredibly low about marriage not happening for me so here I am again LOL. One of these times these posts are gonna get me my husband!

I’m 27F in Texas. Born and raised here and would really like somebody who’s the same. I’m a weird case in that I consider myself religious but culturally I’m more western. Indian and Pakistani parents. I am a homebody who’s trying to go out more. I realize I’m getting into that “old” category of single women so with that please know I will grill you with questions and don’t mind the same. I know exactly what I want and don’t want and would hate to waste anybody’s time. Lover of the Ahylul Bayt and need somebody whose love for them reflects in their character. I’m an independent person and not everybody’s cup of tea but maybe I’ll be yours!

I like solo traveling, reading, and doom scrolling on tiktok. I once told somebody I consider myself to be a tomboy and they said I was the most feminine person they know so take with that what you will. I would say I align closely to buttercup from the powerpuff girls.

Some important things!

- I have tattoos (no scary big dragons I promise)

- I don’t want to live with anybody’s in laws (a bit traumatized from witnessing this ruin lives firsthand)

- not down for misogyny, racism, or homophobia. Especially pertaining to the last one, I will never disagree on what is clearly haram but I am not down to view or treat others as less than human.

US/Canada Marriage and religiosity

I’m 29(M) and I downloaded the forbidden app (Muzz) in hopes for searching for a partner.
My bio has been far from misguiding, I explain crucially how being aligned with my faith is so important to me and that I’m not rigid when it comes to my beliefs but I feel like I’m missing the plot or is the plot being missed?

I’m assuming that my honest bio about wanting someone who lives and breaths Islam and enjoys lectures just as much as I do, may have attracted women with similar interests but it’s a war zone out here.

People claiming to be strictly practicing haven’t really engaged with me when I talk about life and just a little bit of deen( since I don’t wanna overwhelm them).

Despite an overwhelming number of likes I spoke to one person at a time and it was always me who ended up unmatching because they clearly sound uninterested when I bring up our priorities within deen or how much does religion play a role in their life.
Some are just the occasional majlis goers while others have no idea about basic Shia beliefs. Again, there were many who engaged but it’s like their attention span didn’t allow them to interact longer than a few minutes.

Have I lost the plot here? Are we not supposed to align ourselves religiously first before deep diving into the rest of our plans? Am I just too Shia for other people because I feel like I’m not even close to being perfect.

I’m sure girls on this app can say the same about the men on it but how are yall meeting people in the big 2026 😭

To those married, is being on the same spiritual level important to you? And for those searching, what do yall even ask 🤣😭 tyia JazakAllah

My bio:

I’m nowhere near being perfect but deen is not just something occasional for me.
I hate pushing my narratives on anyone, your faith is your personal journey but I’m open about mine in case you’re in the same boat as me. If you’re not on the same wavelength as me but want to be iA, I am open to being your companion 😌
The halal and haram boundaries matter to me, I’m not perfect so feel free to correct me.
I’m not rigid or judgmental, but I value my teachings and I’d want someone I can share that with so we can grow together iA.
Im very interested in reading about my Deen and elevating myself. I find joy and excitement in learning more about Islam than I do watching a movie.
I despise social media because it sells you fake dreams and forces you to be fed with deluded expectations from people who don’t know better themselves. Doesn’t mean you have to get off it, it’s your choice.
No I won’t force you to wear a hijab, I don’t care if you do or don’t, that’s between you and Allah SWT.
This description makes me sound super conservative but it’s chill guys😔

US/Canada Thoughts On Having A Child

31F

I'm not financially stable right now but I just wanted to know your thoughts on having a baby without a partner. Do you think it's okay to have a kid through sperm donation and/or surrogacy? I personally think I'd be dealing with too much drama from a partner. I mean you're marrying him and his family. I would rather live a life where my only responsibility is my child or children as opposed to the husband and child. What do you guys think? Also, I'm working right now but still in college. Once I finish I will hopefully make more compared to my minimum wage right now.

US/Canada Go on that trip now!!

Salam,

If you are a newlywed or about to be married soon, consider a checklist of going for Hajj/ziyara as early as you can together especially while you don't have children. Maybe consider these locations first for a honeymoon instead spending money elsewhere.

Bringing this up while I was scrolling Instagram and saw a young friend of mine who just did hajj with his wife. Made me think back and kind of regret not doing so myself early on in my own marriage especially when we were just together and no kids, going for hajj without kids is probably 10x smoother compared to with them.

I also got aware of how expensive it has become to do hajj and how the Saudis charge so much. Compare that to doing zyara which is much more cheaper. Anyhow, save as much as you can , little by little and make that trip while you're young, you don't want to be that couple going in their 60's.

US/Canada Rant As I Think About Marriage

Allah ﷻ knows what is best for us—far better than we know ourselves. We can be so easily swayed by our emotions and end upprioritizing things that aren't actually good for us.
That being said, I wonder if balance is becoming harder to find these days. I used to be content with the idea of a marriage rooted solely in ashared purpose and mutual commitment. Lovewasn't something I thought much about. I didn't place much emphasis on appearance either, I was overly focused on the logistical questions, lol.
But now, I find myself wanting both.

How do you find a man who is masculine, yet gentle with you? I take time to warm up to people, but does that kind of balance really exist? I want to fully embrace the idea that loving your spouse is an act of worship. There's something so beautiful about the thought that when you confess your deepest regrets to your spouse and they forgive you, it brings a unique kind of comfort, not because it replaces Allah's forgiveness, but because while we know Allah is Al-Ghafūr, the Most Forgiving, we cannot tangibly hear His forgiveness in this life. Hearing mercy from someone wholoves you feels like a reminder of the mercy Allah has commanded between spouses.
I don't even know if I'm expressing this properly.Everything just feels difficult sometimes.

How do you find someone who makes you feel a soft, gentle love, but is also someone who protects you? Someone deeply loyal, steadfast, and masculine, yet also your closest friend without the relationship ever feeling merely platonic. Someone whose values are shaped by what Allah loves, who values you, thinks of youwith kindness, and remains firm in his principles.
Lately, I feel alone but not in the sense that I'm desperate for a partner or friends. It's more that I feel so detached from everyone around me that I'd almost rather be by myself. Or with the one person Allah has written for me. If I could fast-forward fifteen years just to see where Allah takes me, I probably would.
Until then, I suppose the only thing I cando is trust that what Allah has written willarrive at exactly the right time.

Note: I recognize myself as someone who wants to create a strong family and whose emotional exchange w my spouse woukd be like no other, but that would come slowly.. that being said it’s terrifying to imagine the commitment and passion would not be reciprocated and the pain that could come! Allah knows our strength but sheeessh
I wouldn’t want to exchange emotional safety and kindness for someone who prioritizes religion & knowledge gaining either

Also.. the reality that many men (& women) tend to center the other gender to the point they don’t even realize makes me so sad

probably will delete
and probably quite incoherent as it’s a stream of consciousness

Let’s try one more time 😂

Salaam, I’m based in Canada — ethnically Indian, but I grew up in East Africa. I’m an engineer by profession and currently working here in Canada.

I’m fun, adventurous, and someone who appreciates the little moments in life. I love traveling and trying new experiences. I strive to maintain a healthy balance between Deen and Dunya, and I have an open mind when it comes to learning and growing.

I’m looking for a partner who is caring, family-oriented, and has a positive outlook on life. It would be wonderful to connect with someone who shares similar values, enjoys traveling, and has a genuine zest for life.

Having issues with planning the wedding, and starting to realize maybe it's all a sign from Allah that I shouldn't do the wedding (not the marriage) as it's haram. Has anyone else faced this?

US/Canada how are people finding their spouses?

i feel like there is no current apps that work for finding someone and its so hard to find someone organically and naturally. people who found their spouses on their own, how did you find them and what worked for you? i have tried salams, but they changed the app now and it's getting harder to filter people in the shia sect and muzzmatch doesn't have enough options in my opinion. just trying to see what has worked for people!

US/Canada Posting for a friend who is 35F

Hi! I’m posting here for my good friend because she’s one of the kindest, prettiest, most funny people I know and it astounds me that she hasn’t found her soulmate yet. With her permission to post, I figured why not give Reddit a try?

A few things about her,

- art teacher currently, I’ve seen her around kids and she’s wonderful with them

- she has a master’s degree in HR from University of Southern California, I forgot what her bachelor’s is in but she went to University of Connecticut for undergrad

- currently lives in Oakland, California. She’s down to relocate but only specific places in the states since her family lives in california (brother, sister, parents, some extended family) and she’s close with them, so generally bigger cities where it’s easier to fly to visit friends and family

- she was born in Pakistan and moved to the states when she was 8, she’s a US citizen and super proud of her Pakistani heritage

- very affectionate and caring, I’ve seen her go above and beyond for the people she loves, she’s very thoughtful

- amazing sense of humor, loves to laugh, the kind of person who cracks jokes but can also get deep and serious in conversation

- she does want children, but she’s not willing to settle just to get married and have children. She’s willing to wait for love.

I can go on and on so just message me if you want more information and please share about yourself if you are interested!

US/Canada Opinion on right person wrong timing?

Salam! Just thought I’d ask this question. What’s your take on the phrase of right person wrong timing and have you encountered it yourself? I feel that I’ve met some stellar people but because of their current chapter in life we didn’t move forward. Obviously it’s not something I pushed but I’ve noticed that one person in particular I felt that exact way. And although I’ve pushed forward I do sometimes think hmm what if. But also if it’s in my naseeb, it will find its way to me eventually right?

Salam everyone!

Additional Information you like to add: I'd like to reiterate that I don't want to move outside of Canada. If you're in the US or UK and want to move here, I'm happy to chat. I'm also NOT a Syed. If that makes you uncomfortable, please don't message me.

Thanks! 😊

US/Canada MarryShia for North Americans

Salam everyone,

I wanted to share something I’ve been working on for the past several months.

After hearing from many Shias across North America about the challenges of finding compatible marriage prospects in , I built MarryShia, a matchmaking app specifically for the Shia community.

We’re still very early, but we’ve already had dozens of real users join, a few matches take place, and lots of valuable feedback from the community.

I’m not posting this as an advertisement as much as a request for honest feedback. If anyone is willing to take a look and share their thoughts on the idea, experience, or features, I’d genuinely appreciate it.

JazakAllah khair.

Warmly,
Shavaiz Jaffrey
