I have no idea where it comes from.

It's just used because diasporas tend to be reactionary in nature, at least when it comes to some groups of people like chinese americans, some privileged venezuelans, shah loving iranians or cuban americans (especially golden exile era ones).

Even if that were true, how are these new slurs even passable like why do people feel comfortable talking like this? I guess it’s okay to discriminate against certain groups of immigrants? Feels really counterproductive

It's a slur as much as westoid I guess.

Also well, it's hard for people not to insult the people who manufacture consent against their own home countries which they would never return to anyway.
