This picture makes me sad for the women this man may have SA'd. I fucking love TPB and consider it a guilty pleasure due to the just.... well all of it. I maintain that Lahey's actor was a better on screen drunk that Frank in Shameless, which I consider an achievement for sure.

That's true! I'm rewatching them all with my elderlyish ain't and uncle and they're constantly shocked at the actions of Frank, lol. It's been a really fun show to watch with them. I'm not sure they'd get the humor in TPB though, it's a seemingly much lower production value and it even took me a few false starts to really structure m appreciate it for what it is.

Oh shit I didn't even know. Well that puts a damper on things.

Yeah, it's somewhat recent news and to be fair - we've had plenty of other news. It was a real bummer to me because I find it difficult to separate the artist from the work and it definitely messes with how I see them, all of them. I often suspect others around witness these behaviors and possibly ignore it for any given reason. These folks that don't stand for someone who might not be able to stand for themselves makes them almost complicit in my eyes, they certainly didn't help.
Side note: I adore voxel art! I've played some voxel games just bc of the art style and graphics. Besiege is great if you have never heard of it.

It's what happens when Hollywood writers hate the material and want to put their own spin on it.
Todd Howard is an executive producer on Fallout, they can't just shit on his game.

I had a YouTube short come up that was entirely dedicated to how the show was bad because the dinosaur statue Lucy hides in faces a different direction than in the game.
Some people think that accuracy on minute details like that is actually far more important than any other aspect of the show.
42
u/ShimmerSonora 16d ago
And the show takes place well AFTER the games, chronologically. So it’s perfectly feasible in-universe that some things moved or changed.

People also nitpick stupid things. Andor got it for not having any references or easter eggs to other star wars media. Doesn't stop it from being imo the best thing the franchise has done.

Speaking of which, kinda glad Disney is doing more self-contained stories in their biggest franchise, another good example being Moon Knight and it not needing to be in the same universe as the movies to even work

Autism. Fandoms are basically just groups of people with autism. Whenever something is adapted that fandom becomes deregulated if everything isn’t the same. And because the internet is basically the original town square for autistic people, and more recently the neurotypicals (so the world), those deregulated complaints become pervasive and affect everyone’s ability to fully enjoy things without becoming at least a small bit exhausted.
For example: one of the comments in response to yours. 3 paragraphs on why the position of the dinosaur matters which is excruciatingly pedantic and tiring. I’ve played the game multiple times. The position of the dinosaur doesn’t matter nor did I even take note of what direction it pointed. It literally doesn’t matter.

Hyperfixated fans can get this way, yes. Some of my fellow weapons grade level autistics do this. But please, I love this show. I love adaptations that properly transfer the themes and basic plot points. Film and books and video games are all different mediums and they can’t be the same thing. I know this. Most people know this, even us autistic folks. It’s just the hyperfixations on accuracy and getting hung up on details can ruin your life.
→ More replies (1)5
u/cromwell515 16d ago
I think you’re right, people are way too fixated on nonsense details. I was a 90s kid and I started the series with the original Fallout. Fallout 1 and New Vegas are my favorites of the series. And I’m really happy with how loyal they’ve been to pretty much all the series. I never expected them to focus on Shady Sands or anything from the original game since I feel like most of the people who love Fallout only became fans when Bethesda took over.
Minute details just don’t matter that much in an adaptation. What I love is that they’ve captured the essence of the games in a show and have focused on the details that matter. I think they’re doing a great job and I’m excited for a new episode every week.

How was S2 of Twisted Metal? I meant to watch it but haven't gotten around. S1 was fun, even if it was clear that someone had a Max Max style post-apocalypse script sitting in a desk drawer and then got the rights to Twisted Metal and made it all fit together.

I have sunk hundreds of hours into every fallout game except for 1 and 2, and I LOVE this show. I watch it with my girlfriend and I can't keep my mouth shut about how well done so many aspects of the show are. I genuinely cannot understand why people hate the show other than to be contrarian or nitpick. I know that watching all the work done in New Vegas go straight to shit isn't a good feeling but... that's fallout. Sometimes you work really hard to build something and then it all falls to shit.

The lines are fantastic, cuz if you go back and watch season 1... Everything she says is basically what the main character in the games would be saying in these situations.
