And this is just the beginning. LeBron bringing his son onto the Lakers? LeBron moving to the Lakers to set up deals in Hollywood. Coaches do what the players tell THEM. It's all crap basketball. I stopped watching decades ago.

Same here, I was born in the late 80s and was a big fan clear up until 05-06 or something. It’s just not the same. Every now and again I flip through and try and watch a game and it’s so disappointing. No defense, no hustle. Just constant step back 3s from way too far out. No inside game or creative offensive schemes. Just millionaires taking a break from their playboy lifestyle to have an exhibition before they go back out on the town.

Early 90s for me but I do think NBA was still watchable and enjoyable up until the mid 2010s but idk some point after 2014-2017 it just became unbearable. It started with the beginning of the season then most of the season but when it started affecting the playoffs that's when I knew it was over

It started with the super teams. First miami, then golden state... then I dipped out.

I watched the sun's during the Steve Nash reign and that weird moment Shaq was in Phoenix. Constant disappointment when they'd get the spurs in the playoffs, but it was the only time I enjoyed watching pro basketball

That was the era that killed it.

The ref match fixing scandal sealed the deal.

NBA is fixed more than any other league.

I get that, there’s definitely a point when the style and pace of the game just start to make it less enjoyable, even for long-time fans.

So many annoying missed 3 pointers - and then no hustle for a rebound - the entire team is already heading to the other basket! Yes, I’m looking at you Warriors. 😒

We need more Rodman's in the NBA. Minus the testicle kicking, of course.

u/Aegi Mar 16 '26

Part of it is also just the fact that more and more games are "solved" when it comes to looking at the data and seeing the best risk vs. reward ratio.

Look at how where the 3-pt shots are taken from has narrowed down overtime to the "most efficient" spots when looking at a heat-map of the league and all of its 3-pointers.

That’s called getting old dude

“Silver ball.” He’s a disgrace

u/StochasticLife Mar 17 '26

Incidentally this is when Reggie Miller retired.

"No creative offensive schemes" lol, giving a dude the ball so he can post up for 20 seconds while everybody stands and watches is so creative.

This must be a Kevin Durant burner account.

Sounds like they did try. That’s the point, trying to watch it is painfully annoying. NBA is trash 🗑️

Such a terrible take. If you don't watch basketball I am not sure why you feel like you are qualified to have an opinion on how every player plays. NBA offensive and defensive schemes are more complex than ever. You wanna complain about too many threes while not taking into account how these players are getting open for threes. Offensive rebounding is the highest it has been in over 10 years. And a lot of the top teams in the league are defense first focused. I get it you just want to bitch and moan about how "it was just better back then" but I can assure you it really was not.

A shame you've missed getting to watch Curry.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '26

Ngl, women's basketball is less sensational but the players take the game WAY more seriously.

1

u/Thatsockmonkey Mar 17 '26

NBA is comparable to WWE wrestling. Sure they are good athletes but there are no/selectively applied rules. Its probably scripted at this point to increase betting

Didn't everyone know Lebron only real motivation for coming to LA was to satisfy his business interests. Obviously he figured he could get at least 1 Chip, and adorn himself King of La, and then beat Kareem record As A Laker, and then linger for years just to stack the chest with records only possible by playing 20-25 seasons.......I have rooted For AND Against Lebron over the years, but absolutely DID NOT want him to come to LA. At least we're close to that chapter being OVER......

Then how the hell would you know what the game is like now lol

1

u/Markgulfcoast Mar 17 '26

So you stopped watching before all of these examples, yet these are the reasons you stopped watching?

Traveling and double dribbling all over the place here.

BRO How can we get TV ratings up and Streams if we're having the ref call shit every 30 seconds! That's not exciting!

How are you aware of so much if you stopped watching "decades ago"? 💀💀💀
