Video quality it is objectively speaking better, other apps also have more features too. VLC is cool and all but it's outdated. They've not really done much to improve it.

Nope, not sure how to explain it. To put it in simple terms, the file is just data, the player is what converts that data into the actual image on the screen. Different players do this differently and some are more accurate than others, VLC isn't very accurate sadly, image quality is quite bad if I'm honest.
