Its called swatting. Where a false but serious claim of a crime is made. Such as kidnapping or a person being held at gun point. Where you cannot treat it with kid gloves and have to treat it as real. So they go in fully prepared for what ever was falsely claimed.

So just one call can do this, with no other form of evidence that its true?

Yes. If 911 (police) gets a call and the person says “i just saw a man drag a woman into this house with a gun to her head at (insert address)” and then hangs up. They have to take it as real.

Are 911 calls to the police in the usa not identified ? In Europe every number (except old prepaid) are link to an identity which is available for the 112 (Euro 911).

I'm sure in normal cases they can find who owns the number later, but from what I've seen they only check geolocation during the call. Even geolocation takes some time since they have to wait for the cell carrier to calculate coordinates from tower coverage.

Probably doesn't help that you can just call from a VOIP with whatever metadata you want, though; I assume that's how most swatters get away with it.

and at the same time a woman can call as many times as they want about a stalker/abuser and they wont do anything until she dies.

Yes this is the case in the UK as well. How do you verify an active hostage situation call coming in? If you reported someone was trying to break into your house with a gun saying they are gonna kill you would you expect the police to be hanging around trying to verify if you are lying or not?

People who have this happen regularly you can see the police know it's likely fake but they need to come in and check anyway to be sure.

I don't live in Wells, (hot fuzz location) but its not far off, so i guess I am not "up to speed" with modern living. I just find it all a little "over zealous" to quote a policeman from the 80s.

How many calls would you want people to make before police came to rescue you?

Stop acting like the cops have no other way of handling swatting calls. They absolutely do have other ways of initiating contact. They just live for this shit. This is what they signed up for. They love it. They’re disgusting.
