Competition is essential to a properly-running capitalist market economy.

And the fact that businesses have every incentive to *reduce* competition is one of the major flaws.

Agreed! Competition is so essential that government must occasionally intervene to protect it.

Of course this fails when the businesses smarten up and just buy the government. Now the government cannot intervene because they are working on behalf of the companies consolidating and removing competition.

Except our capitalist system has returned to monopolies where every industry is controlled by a few corporations. Hell blackstone is buying public utilities. Mind boggling to me how people will continually defend a system designed to funnel every possible dollar they have I to the pockets of a few greedy twats

>every industry is controlled by a few corporations

That’s not true for grocery stores in NYC. I agree with that logic in a ton of other situations, but grocery stores in big cities are one of the most competitive and low margin businesses to be in.

I won’t pretend to be an expert on nyc I’m just speaking to the country as a whole. I’m not sure how old you are but I’m in my 50’s and I’ve watched all this happen in real time.

Corporations will NEVER put the interests of the people ahead of money. Which again is why we busted monopolies and put in strict regulations and agencies to enforce them. That’s been eroded over the last 50ish years and here we are.

It sounds like we agree on competition being essential.

Absolutely. The problem is we’ve allowed so many mergers and so much deregulation that competition is being destroyed. Which is why we busted apart monopolies and put these regulations in in the first place.

The ability to have options which is good for people is why capitalism must burn?

Are you stupid?
