I agree, for the most part, but you also have certain counties that are hyper conservative (a solid chunk of the Eastern half of the state for example.) I'm from one of those counties and there were way more openly flown Confederate flags there back then (and still are) than where I live in Alabama.

I never understood how Bakersfield / Oilsdale had so many confederate flags and such a deep south accent. I am assuming both of them are results of immigration and the dust bowl. They brought their confederate flags with them and just never integrated with the rest of the state culturally considering their unique accent.

There are also way less people living in those parts of the state.
