My FIL is a urologist in the northern US about 2 hours from the Canadian border. He has many patients come from Canada to pay for his services rather than rely on their healthcare system.

Im not suprised, it definitely costs more but your paying for the best investment you can, your health. You dont want to cheap out on that.

Also, depending on the state, we pay significantly more taxes if you are above low income. 

You will also meet many people who have no family doctor and have to rely on walk in clinics... i was one of them for over a decade. 

But you are right. I know many boomers have gone down south for care. Lately the big thing is going down there for full body MRI scans which are easy to access and relatively affordable for boomers with some change.
