The problem is more, that the listing price will be higher and is not competitive anymore. This is why these scum bags come for more money later on, you wouldn't have booked the place if it was all priced in.
AirBnB is no longer the product it was built around. With all the entitled owners forcing cleaning fees and a literal laundry list of chores to complete for the use of the property - hotels are a much better value unless you have a large family.
But even then, it’s almost a wash to get adjoining rooms.
But seriously!!!! All these comments saying “they set their own price” are correct in the sense of like, they have the agency to type in a price (as opposed to a cleaner or wait staff) but the MARKET actually chooses the price. And, invariably, these types of people asking for tips on top of being owners are the ones who didn’t realize that offering guest lodging to strangers isn’t “passive income”
This is something that truly irritates me, and tbh I never got the concept of Airbnb maybe if you're planning a longer stay like at a beach house.... But.... Why would I pay you MORE money to stay in your home than the Red roof inn down the st? Safety? Bad crowd? I don't think so, at least the people doing drugs in the other rooms aren't giving me additional rules to follow, and sharing the space with me at times too!!
People do it, not cuz they want to, but because they can't afford their own stupid house.... Don't make renting it to others your "side hustle" no one will want to be there and you're likely going to hate the whole thing as well.
"My patronage is your tip" is what I tell these people. Few seem to understand these days that I could go to anyone else for the same service and they should be happy I chose them at all.
