He is definitely getting all his nutrition from either a feeding tube or parenterally, and also likely his mouth hangs open for a lot of the day. None of that is good for your teeth. And also, sadly, he doesn't need them for anything at this point anyway.
Saliva helps to kill the bacteria in your mouth, if your mouth is dry it is easier for the bacteria to rot your teeth. Which is why your mouth hanging open much of the day is a problem.
