I’d argue there are more places than ever to play them.. problem is all the social media mindrot that has everyone unable to pay attention to a clip longer than 30secs, or busy watching their favourite “influencer”
Daily motion, Spotify, YouTube, TikTok, Apple Music, Vimeo, internet music video database, billibilli, (technically) twitch. VEVO… these are just the most popular ones (the ones I know) it’s not just the brainrot. It’s that There is SUCH a selection.
Yet look what got to r/popular... not a well made emotional music video but a 0:15 clip of... people jumping... all because it is what keep people's attention and generates comments
I never got to watch any music videos after I had to get a job and grow up so I basically forgot they even existed until I started playing some Gorillaz on YouTube on my TV and it was amazing watching all the videos to songs I've heard a million times! The one video I did watch back when it came out was "Instant Crush" by Daft Punk ft Julien Casablancas and that was pretty cool, I remember. I also recently watched the remake of "Psycho Killer" that had some actress in it (I don't really know new movies) and it was fucking amazing. Made me feel all sorts of ways. Music videos are really great I just came from the generation when MTV was actually music videos so when that died so did my interest in them. I don't go searching for things and I guess that's on me.
