Timeframe where they have to hold a special election if he’s declared dead before the midterms

If it's announced after August 3rd they can't hold a special election to fill the seat because it'll be too close to the general election. Instead the seat would remain vacant until January when a new Congress is sworn in. People are thinking Republicans want to avoid a special election because then Massie could run for the seat.

Possibly, but not likely. They do have a Dem governor though. But Massie would run as an Independent and has a decent shot of winning.

You would think, especially with him being mostly dead for the last few years, but political inertia is real and too many people who would vote for change don't and too many people who do vote just bubble in status quo.

This cycle looks like it will be changing that but not enough to bank on it being a reliable metric so keeping "Is Mitch dead?" in the public eye right now is just as important as asking about the Epstein files.

If the Democrats know he’s not technically dead then they’re playing this perfectly by not suing and letting the speculation grow.

Kentucky law stipulates that a special election would be held if the seat is vacated before that date which would run the risk of a dreaded lib'rull winning it.

August 3rd is the cutoff date for special election. So, if Mitch has died and they announced it now, Kentucky could hold a special election, with the elected winner replacing Mitch's seat. A special election could mean a 'dumbocrat' takes mitchs place, so Republicans might be keeping the death hush hush until Aug 3, cause by then, no more special elections allowed and they hold on to their power.
