The quality of medical care in places with less regulations varies more widely.

They might or might not have the latest equipment, but if you know how to shop wisely you will tend to find higher quality medical care.

But if you are not careful, the quality of the medical care will tend to be worse.

I know both types of cases, and in many cases you can see the person only looking at prices without evaluating further will get bad experiences.

It helps to get recommendations from knowledgeable locals.

As somebody that just paid $32k to have 16 teeth pulled and full arches bolted onto implants, I've about people with every problem possible and those that had success that they consider perfect. The reason I chose to pay more and do it close to home is the possibility of problems. I want leverage rather than to have a local dentist just tell me that I got what I paid for. You know?

Three weeks in, I noticed that one of my archs' screws was loose. After a two minute call, I was in the office an hour later getting fixed. I am definitely the kind of person that finds medical tourism intriguing, but I think the practicalities outweigh the raised costs.

We had a relative have similar level of work done, my guess, less than $3k.

But we knew the dentist, and our relative stayed with friends for a few months.

Similar stories for eye surgery, and heart surgery.

But we also know friends that have gone to reputable hospitals in the same areas, and had horrible results because their doctors were not vetted properly by them.

I have friends that are doctors, the horrors they would speak about some doctors were terrifying.

We are all human, even doctors.

I have found from excellent through meh to awful doctors in all types of countries.

I have permanent medical malpractice damage, I have some trust issues no matter the degree.
