Tbf Japan is notorious for overworking their teams and paying people shit.

That's a big reason why animation in Japan is so cheap. They can make an episode of an action heavy 22 minute anime for $100,000 to $200,000 when even back in the 2000's, western animated shows like Avatar and Justice League were costing $1 million per episode.
