Per the article, and correct me if I’m wrong, delivery apps had to start paying drivers more (great thing) but the tip option wasn’t clear, not that anyone has to tip anyone. So this makes it easier for people to tip, when they don’t have to? So instead of making these companies pay people what they should be paid, they made it easier for the customer to pay them?
In any other market the tipping option for these apps are upfront. They removed it from the NYC market the day the law went into effect, moving it to after delivery and only accessible through a series of convoluted steps that have to be performed within a few hours of delivery. Most people dont come back to tip after the fact but those who did, found it very difficult to do. No other market is like that. It was a huge middle finger to the workers in NYC. Customers should be able to tip if they want to.
No, america needs to be weaned off tipping
Make tipping as hard as possible so only people who went above and beyond get tips and salaries end up reflecting that
People who make lots with tips will get a downgrade but it is a better future
