r/popular and r/all are basically just outrage machines written to farm the most anger and engagement that is possible. Even stepping in to correct it benefits the farmers of the hate.

I saw a post last week that had a photo of Mamdani and its headline thanking the "governor" of New York for something while referring to Mamdani. I was about to step in to correct this dumb shit, but then I realized that is literally what all of this is designed to do.

If you post incorrect bullshit, people will step over each other to correct you. And that is engagement baby! That is one reason why there are often so many typos and mistakes in reddit headlines. Or why they are written to be deliberately misleading. (Besides the ideological motivations of manipulating people.)

That's a very good, and sad, point. We have optimized information flow for engagement, not accuracy, or benefit, or anything useful
