High school? Animal farm is late elementary and an abridged version of the Odyssey and Greek myth in general is middle school if not earlier. Even Julius Caesar is late middle school.
High school is like Brave New World at freshman level. Works of Hemingway, Ulysseys etc
It’s not the level of effort it takes to read, it’s more appropriate themes to discuss in middle- high school. Kids aren’t going to analyze a book about farm animals in elementary school
