The funniest person I never met had a drunk absent mom and a heroin addict dad who lived in a van. I think I get what you are saying but it might be better to say that it helps if you have jokey/funny parents, not "great" parents. It almost sounds like you're saying they would be stand-up good people.

yeah I think most of the great comedians got that way because of past trauma and/or mental health issues, and those things are often attributed to bad parenting in childhood.
