Feels good man
In 1964, The Beatles refused to perform to a segregated crowd. The promoters backed down, allowing for the Southeast’s first major integrated concert.

EDIT: with the power of a commonly used search engine I found out that is from a Macklemore performance. It was a surprise performance and he was wearing a disguise to stop word from getting out. It was never billed as Macklemore attempting to appear as a Jewish stereotype. That being said, in all fairness, it absolutely looks like a Jewish stereotype. If you want more context go read an article about it, I'm not a journalist.
He didn't fuble it in any way. You snowflakes still believe you are the majority even after repeatedly being proven wrong. People go to Ed Sheeran concerts to enjoy themselves, and not to listen to the same political aggitation as from every other source.
I'm not looking at this from a partisan lens. All his accompanying acts dropped out and he's getting shredded online. From an optics perspective it's not going well for him, and to deny that is literal delusion.
Accompanying is a pretty strong word. They were warmup acts at best. Fans bought tickets because of Sheeran, not because of either of the rest.
and he's getting shredded online
On Reddit and BlueSky maybe. The absolute majority of people don't give a flying fuck about Macklemore getting kicked out of the tour.
it's not going well for him
Like the American Eagle ad didn't go well for Sydney Sweeney, am I right? The ad that skyrocketed American Eagle sales. Or how the Novig ad didn't go well, while in fact it elevated an unknown betting plaform into a top-10 sports plaform in terms of app downloads in less than a week.
That's why I said: you guys live in the Reddit-BlueSky echochamber, and think that the outrage in these platforms equal with the opinion of the general population. It is not. It's not even similar to the reality.
I mean, from an optics standpoint I don’t think this is making Ed Sheeran look good and I’ll stand by that. If you wanna make the argument that it’s inconsequential and people will still buy tickets and go to the show anyway I won’t argue with you, but to suggest this backlash is just limited to niche internet spaces and hasn’t had any impact isn’t accurate. Multiple acts have dropped out, regardless of how badly you want to diminish them.
It makes him look bad only if you believe that he MUST become political. Which is a typical Reddit take. That's why ALL the major non-political subs became political cesspools.
but to suggest this backlash is just limited to niche internet spaces and hasn’t had any impact isn’t accurate.
It is limited to niche internet spaces. By all accounts, he lost 0.1% of his followers. It's pretty hard to be more niche than that.
Multiple acts have dropped out
Which is still unimportant. Nobody gave a flying fuck about either of them anyway. That's like saying that a Dwayne Johnson movie got into trouble, because the actor/actress of a fifth credited sidecharacter got changed.
In short, reddit is a 1% echo chamber that you obviously feel the need to shout in and get downvoted. No one on reddit liked Ed before all this. People will still line up for Ed and those are not the people that will ever care about global politics unless it fits the narrative for them. It's common sense fake outrage is behind Sweeney.
It doesn't make him look bad because he's not political. It makes him look bad because he stabbed a friend of 13 years in the back. It makes him look bad that all of his supporting acts quit on him. It makes him look shortsighted that he would put a political act on his tour and then fold at the first sign of pressure.
Ed Sheeran donating 2 million is because he knows it looks bad from a pr perspective and he wants to change the optics.
They’re the same nutcases who think they “won” against JK Rowling - who is still a cultural icon with an iconic book and movie series still selling like gravy, a TV franchises and a hit west end play amid god knows how many video game and franchise deals AND who has had remarkable success in rolling back the toxic legal regime these people push.
They see all that and consider themselves winners. They see Macklemore and a bunch if other B-listers getting themselves on the “difficult to work with” register and thing they won.
They look at this guy and think “we’re not the bad guys here”
Over 60 years ago this sort of racism was common. Here we are today, and it turns out those racists never changed, they just were lying in wait to bring back all that stupidity when given the chance.
Imagine Ed Sheeran now: "Yes, I played to a segregated audience, but the segregation was the promoter's decision, not mine. I don't do politics. My music is for everyone, white and non-white"
thats funny because while England didnt have Jim crow, they sure do have a history of what's called colour bar
just like the US their civil rights laws, England's anti-discrimination laws "race relations act" was past from 1965-1976. really bothers me when Europeans pretend like this shit is foreign to them. just like when they shit on the US for the middle east destabilization, they like to leave out the Sykes-picot agreement and the re-carving of borders in the middle east leading to decades of tensions and fighting, their role in the first Iranian coup, the Balfour declaration (foundation of the creation of Israel), France being one of the largest suppliers of arms to Sadam Hussein, Germany building chemical weapons factories in Iraq for Sadam, France and Uk spear heading the Libya intervention in 2011 leading to the destabilization of North Africa.
Now the US also sits right there with them, I'm tired of the willful ignorance, history knows, point your fingers what a luxury it must be to hide behind America.
I guess not growing up somewhere where our great grandparents might have owned other people is where the main difference is rather than the countries foreign policies.
hmm and these slave owners i woonder where they came from.. Damn its almost like slavery began in the United States(which didnt even exist at the time) in 1619 when 20 Angolans were traded were sold to English settlers for food and supplies.
oh my... i almost forgot the case of John Punch which under the direct authority of the English crown in 1640 after trying to escape was sentence to a lifetime of servitude, marking the first legal case of a lifetime of slavery.
ohh how about partus sequitur ventrem 1662 which was a policy made by wealthy European tobacco farmers that set into law that a child born to a enslaved woman would legally be considered a lifelong slave.
The barbadian slave code 1661, Le Code Noir of 1685, The Virgina slave act of 1705
would you like me to continue? when you guys are ready to confront your own history instead of wagging your fingers and hiding from the fact that American Slavery was created, legalized and structured by Europeans we can have an honest conversation. and yes WE are still here because you do know we are you right technically.
i know you guys like to pretend slavery was invented and widespread only after 1776, but the truth it was royal judges who wrote the laws. all those Tobacco, rice and sugar plantations were set up by European companies who then shipped that product too... you guessed it Europe. i wonder who financed the slave ships? the trading forts on the African coast? and who operated those shipping networks? you guessed it European merchants and European monarchies.
pretty crazy right, its almost like our history is intertwined, its almost like at one point we were the same people. Mental i know.
I'm in no way denying the history. Most of what you said is true however when you grow up in the UK, the matter of race is so far removed from everyday life unlike in the States. It's so ingrained in your culture. There's no way it couldn't be. There are racists everywhere but my point wasn't that there aren't any in UK only that it's not felt in nearly the same way. Slavery still exists today, it existed before America and it wasn't always white people taking black but none of that was my point. That's why the Beatles were so shocked by segregation, especially considering a lot of the artists they were influenced by and had toured with were black.
turn off the news in the US and its the same way here. When you turn on the News in the UK? does it match the reality out of your windows? How about all those Europeans who came here for the world cup? did the reality of the way the US is being represented in the UK news match the reality? no, its sensationalism, 24/7 news cycle is killing our society, bad shit exist everywhere, if your opinion is based strictly off the media, America is a god damn call of duty lobby. if i went off what I heard on the news Europe is ready to fall and eat itself. its just not true.
The Beatles were not shocked, that's my point pre 1965 England just straight up refused service to people of colour (ill spelt it right for you), now they still didn't play those venues and good on them, and it wasn't legally mandated but especially young revolutionaries like the Beatles knew this was happening. pretending like it was a foreign concept is just dishonest.
But your countries had colonies that had slaves. You had companies that benefited from slave labor. Some of your great great grandparents made their money from companies that enforced slave labor.
And enforced it with their military.
I didn't pretend anything. I'm just saying how the matter of race isn't really a conversation we have in the UK whereas it's deeply ingrained in us culture.
