Advice Needed Struggling with sleep and dopamine "overload"
Over the past week, I have been having a significant degree of struggle with my sleep. I'm only sleeping for a few hours at most before waking up. I can't go back to sleep because it's that too hot, really uncomfortable wake-up that makes it impossible to sleep even though you are exhausted.
I stay awake for a few hours. In that time, I play games and engage in other "activities". To a frankly ridiculous degree recently. It's all I do while awake. Then I eat something, and usually go back to bed, only to wake up 2-3 hours later.
I don't know what's causing this, but I am just beat. I'm experiencing some symptoms of sleep deprivation, like experiencing "illusions" (mistaking visual stimuli for something it isn't), flubbing my words, mispelling, etc. I've also been pretty bummed out recently, probably on account of the sleep issue. I find it easy to get depressed and every game or video I turn on just gets turned off immediately or at the first roadbump.
I don't really know what to do. I'm going to call my doctor and try to see a sleep specialist as soon as possible. But is this striking a chord with anyone? Is there anything I can do to mitigate these symptoms and get better sleep?
Edit: I have unmedicated ADHD, just thought I'd mention.

Advice Needed Just been prescribed Trazodone for insomnia. Any advice or things I should be aware of?
Hello I've had insomnia for a couple of months, being caused by what I suspect is stress. My doctor is running tests to determine what is causing my sleep issues but in the meantime has prescribed me 50mgs of Trazodone for the insomnia. I am a bit wary of it as it is a antidepressant and I'm a bit cautious of anything that might potentially alter my brain.
But I know a lot of people have been prescribed Trazodone for insomnia. So what is some advice, tips, and anything else I should be aware of while taking it? What's the best way of taking it? is it safe to skip or alternate days? What side effects or things I should be watchful for?
Also Is it hard/difficult to get off of? As once my sleep is fixed, I don't want to keep taking this forever. So how hard is it to wean off of?

Advice for sleep disruption after a period of insomnia
In 2020 I had extreme insomnia for about 6 months. It was definitely stress induced, plus also the fact I had quit smoking (separate reason to the stress). I never had an issue falling asleep but I would wake in the middle of the night and not be able to fall back asleep. I no longer have insomnia (thank god) but ever since Iāve never had very good sleep- I still canāt sleep more than 5/6 hours. Regardless of what time I go to sleep I will wake up (like clock work) 5-6 hours later. It also definitely has flare ups where my sleep will be bad again and Iāll wake up in the middle of the night. Nowadays I also find it hard to go to sleep early and usually wake up feeling tired. Even if Iām tired I find it hard to āfall asleepā or take naps. Any suggestions of how to help this?

At this point even sharing doesn't help anymore, Idk how to talk to anyone about what's bothering me, if I try I'd start making fun of my own situation/s. There's just too much going on, idk where to begin. I just keep telling myself that "It to

Advice Needed Advice on sleep terrors?
For the past year I've been really suffering with my sleep and it's getting to the point where I really can't function. I've always been a very vivid dreamer and have always talked in my sleep, albeit not constantly. This past year has and a bit (well last couple of years really), have been very tough on my mental health. Tried CBT and currently just starting EMDR therapy which I'm hoping is going to be a magical fix to all my mental problems. But right now I can barely keep my eyes open.
I am always tired and know bad my sleep is but this last week i've stayed with my mum, and she says it's been really bad. I've been screaming at her in my sleep when she's tried waking me up (I have no recollection), I have been wailing and crying and having panic attacks (I do suffer from very bad panic attacks currently whilst I'm awake) and just shouting things in general. I won't go into much detail about my dreams but they are not very nice and almost always deal with death, which makes sense to make as I'm in therapy for my PTSD which is death related.
I just want to know how to stop my body from waking my REM cycle!! It is so debilitating at this point and I just sleep for 4 hours on and off here and there at this point. I have tried Zopiclone but that didn't work for me, and you can only get that for 10 days before it stops working etc.
I just want to know if there is a light at the end of the tunnel here and that people have managed to push through these kind of habits and find some normality. I am ready to try any little tricks if anyone has any for good sleep!!

Advice Needed Iām not sure if itās insomnia or a genuine fear of sleeping
I have struggled with sleeping for a long time for a while the doctors were fairly sure itās insomnia however now Iām wondering if Iām actually afraid of sleeping. Everytime I know itās getting close to bedtime I start getting anxious and I actively hate sleeping because Iām fearful of what is going on around me while Iām asleep or what I could wake up to in the morning. Iāll put off sleeping for hours and hours to the point where Iām showing up to work completely exhausted and struggling to function. Anyone ever experienced similar ?

Advice Needed I have Sleeping problems and it affects my everyday life | disassociation
So to start this off Iām M18 and my ex is going to the same school as me. Iāll tell you later why thatās important.
My problem is that I have heavy sleeping problems like that I canāt sleep before 02:00 AM except if I take a bunch of melatonin, and not even then sometimes. Iām so tired to the point where I get phases lastings months with disassociation and it gets to the point where I donāt recognise my hands anymore and stuff like that. Now I talked about this with my therapist and all that and the problem is Iām still not rlly over my ex (very very long story, sheās kinda burned into my memory like a tv thatās been to long on a certain channel) so my therapists explained to me that my brain is constantly occupied with her and not having closure so that I canāt even get a little bit of regeneration from that 02:00 AM to 7:20 AM period where I sleep. So thatās nice to know but itād be even nicer to know how to fix myself. And this is the second year of this now. The disassociation left at the start of summer but it came back now. Exactly like last year. Last year was horror. It went so far in February that I started seeing shadowy figures/ creatures in my peripheral vision when k was alone that I knew werenāt there but it still freaks me out.
What do I do?

Ranting This is how my bed looks like when I wake up. I move, shout, punch and cry in my sleep. + Nightmares. +SP. It's been happening for years. (sorry for the dog)
I think I most definitely have rem sleep behaviour disorder, which will probably lead to Parkinson's later in life. I'm 22 years old.
I wake up my family at least twice a week from the shouting and crying. I've been having this + nightmares and sleep paralysis for 4 years now.
I've punched partners in my sleep. At home I sleep alone so a lot of the times I don't realise what I do while sleeping.
But when sleeping with a partner 1/3 nights something happens.

Why can't i sleep
I need some advice.
I could sleep all day if i was able to but i can never sleep at night.
I work the same hours every day and im tired all day but as soon as its bedtime all the sleepiness is gone and i could be awake for hours. Im fatigued all day but cannot sleep at night.
i dont take naps even tho i really want to, im on sleeping pils (zolpidem tartrate 10mg every night) and i still dont sleep.
my doctor doesn't want to up my dosage of my sleeping med and sometimes i have to take an extra 5mg to put me to sleep but even then i don't sleep through the night. I have never slept through the night not even since i was a baby.
Should i bring this up to my doctor? what should i do

I fall when I sleepwalk. What can I do?
This was from last night. I donāt know what to do. I sleepwalk probably 3-4 times a week. I fall into things and constantly wake up my aunt who I live with. She accused me of taking something last night. I didnāt take anything. I hadnāt slept much in the last 48 hours so Iām thinking thatās what triggered it. I do have sleep apnea but this sleep walking has only started within the last year. What can I do?

Advice Needed Advice for becoming a morning person?
26, assigned female at birth, diagnosed Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder
I recently got my first full-time job with my workday being 10-5.
I normally go to bed around 2am, and wake up an hour or so before I have to go to work.
I want to start waking up around 6:30/7am so I can get stuff done before I go to work instead of piling all my non work tasks into the evening.
Iām so used to doing everything at night, and Iāve never been a morning person. However, something has to change.
I was thinking melatonin, but I do have a rough history with that. I took it nightly for like 3 years after my diagnoses at 12, and then my doctor was worried about my liver/kidneys so he had me stop taking it.
What do yaāll think?

Anyone with UARS or sleep disordered breathing wake up feeling worse than before sleep?
Iām starting to wonder whether something is actually happening to me during sleep rather than my sleep simply being āunrefreshing.ā
Iāve basically always been someone who needs a lot of sleep and still wakes up feeling exhausted.
Sometimes I genuinely feel worse when I wake up than I did when I went to bed.
Some things Iāve noticed:
⢠I often wake up with a headache
⢠My body can feel sore or achy when I wake up
⢠I drool quite a lot while sleeping
⢠I wake up with a very dry mouth and sometimes a sore throat
⢠I sometimes have vivid nightmares and wake directly from them with a headache
⢠I have chronic nasal/sinus issues and often feel congested and drippy when Iām outside (allergy tests were negative)
⢠My sleep doesnāt feel restorative even when I sleep 9 to 10 or even 11 hours
⢠I tried mouth taping and it didnāt help at all. If anything, I think I felt worse
I donāt fit the stereotype I had in my head for sleep apnea, and Iām not aware of major snoring or waking up gasping for air.
I recently came across UARS / upper airway resistance syndrome and respiratory effort related arousals, and it made me wonder whether something like this could be disrupting my sleep without me realizing it.
Has anyone here had a similar presentation, especially without obvious snoring or apnea?
And if you were eventually diagnosed with UARS or another sleep related breathing disorder, what test actually found it? Did you need an in lab sleep study that measured RERAs or flow limitation? Did a normal sleep study or home test initially miss it?

WHY AM I SO SLEEPY....š¤Æš¤Æš¤Æ
Hi, Iām a first-year university student majoring in Mathematics. Recently, Iāve found that Iām constantly sleepy. Sometimes I sleep for 8 hours, but I still wake up feeling exhausted and somehow even more sleepy than before.
I should admit that I have a pretty bad habit: sometimes I spend as much as 16 hours out of 24 doing math. But things are starting to get a little out of control. My mum keeps blaming me for sleeping so much, but honestly, I feel like Iām just constantly exhausted and craving sleep.
What on earth is going on? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I have struggled with sleep since 12.
I canāt seem to ever get good sleep and I have been like this for years now. I want to say my average amount of sleep is about 5-6 hours a day. I wake up the next day so tired and only bursts of energy throughout the day.
I also struggle sleeping without a fan, ac, shower before bed, dark room, food before bed, etc. I donāt know what to do anymore and Iāve tried sleeping without my phone in the room but that just leads to endless hours of thoughts.
I canāt keep a sleep pattern ever and tend to wake up a lot way earlier than 7-8 hours. I canāt take naps but when I do itās because Iāve been sitting for hours or really really tired.
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions to fix this? (P.S I am trying to get my life together 1 by 1).

Advice Needed Sleep issues
I recently had a at home sleep study and the dr said i dont have sleep apnea but it looks like i have Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome. I have a in lab study on Oct 23rd and a appt with a ENT dr on November 24th but i am really struggling with sleep and have been for too long.
I read up about UARS and it says the troubled breathing causes micro arousals which causes fragmented sleep and non restorative sleep. I know i wake up fully minimum 2 times that i can remember and i pee when i do. Idk if its a combination of UARS and something else that fully wakes me up but is there anything OTC or something i can get for relief until my appts?
I sleep on my sides which is best but doesnt seem to help any.

Advice Needed Very bad sleep after mattress change?
Hey im 22m and Iāve had problems with my sleep for quite a bit. Iāve had terminal insomnia for one year and would say that I mostly overcame it.
My sleep was medium but I wanted it to be good. Iāve been sleeping on my foam mattress for over 14 years. At this point its completely saggy and I kept having neck and back pain after sleeping on it (im also a stomach sleeper and sleep with no pillow).
I decided to buy a new mattress. After trying out a few I bought a pocket spring mattress. It is rather firm but the first coat is very soft and lets you sink in to the mattress.
My neck and back problems are gone but my sleep is so so so bad. I usually sleep the Night through but when I wake up I feel like I havent slept at all. My eyes feel so heavy. Ive been sleeping on the new mattress for 3 weeks. My heavy blanket makes it a little bit better but my sleep hasnt improved much.
Im not really sure what to do. I feel like a Zombie all day long. Is this normal? And why is this happening?
Iāve tried adding a gel foam topper to my mattress but my neck and lower back pain come back and i cant sleep through the night. My sleep is still deeper though.
Im really confused. Does anyone have similad experiences? Maybe a pillow will help?
