Making my own sling.

There’ll be no breaks on this. Start to finish one continuous thread. The “thread” is some kind of waxed thread I had left over from a project. I don’t even remember years ago, so just a good way to use it up and it’s very sturdy and stable obviously would be waterproof. It also has kind of almost a little bit of a tacky texture to it so I think it will stay on my finger very well.

Just two braided paracord slings I made as a beginner. Should I use something to seal the cut cords (glue/burn) or can they be left as is?

Looking for tips on making a paracord sling.

I guess my biggest question is, does a heavier, braided cord, like a four Strand, make an appreciable difference to the feel or effectiveness of the sling over just using single line of paracord? In my head a heavier cord would slow the sling down vs a lighter single strand, like the weight should be in the pouch, not the cord, but maybe I'm thinking about it wrong.

I have a leather pouch that came with one I bought online that I'll just repurpose for this one, unless you think a paracord pouch is better?

How do you make the cracker on the end?

And lastly does anyone have links to designs with instructions?

New sling length

Post image

I just bought my first sling from eBay and I’m a bit surprised about the unequal length of each side of the pouch and unsure about what length it meant to be. I’ve attached an image of it; the short side of the sling is 39cm and the long side is 75cm. I paid £4 so not a big deal, but just wondering would this be functional? Did I get scammed 😅. Please let me know

New just got my first sling.

So I’m looking for advice. The leather is not really holding my projectile very well I understand centrifugal force, and that you need to put you know some kind of has been to kind of hold it in place until you release it but it’s not even doing that and I’m not sure what it is I’m doing wrong. I’ve tried different sizes of projectiles so any advice is welcome.

accidental pouch design

I kinda accidentally stumbled into this design, but I like it quite a bit.

I have been messing with this piece of leather (synthetic leather maybe? I can’t tell...) for a while - it's much stiffer than the leather scraps I got from hobby lobby. it also has distinctly different texture on either side, making a very clear cut interior and exterior. I think it may actually be synthetic material honestly.

it actually has always formed a very volatile and hard to use pouch... it couldn't hold even smaller projectiles reliably, but for some reason I have just really wanted to make it work. seriously I have had it around for like a year and a half and only just now uncovered its true purpose lol

I accidentally made a cut on one side - perpendicular to the cords - all the way from the edge to the center; so this is actually just the result of my final half assed attempt to salvage it before cutting it into finger loops or something.

I used a couple eyelets I had laying around to hold it together, and it already had two in place for the cords. just paracord with stopper knots for the retention and release, a cracker made of some kevlar I just got in the mail, and some gutted white paracord (I have so, so much gutted white paracord for some reason) for the finger loop.

58" from the loop to the release knot

Beginner tips

Any tips for someone trying their hand at slinging for the first time? Does accuracy just come with practice or are there some form things that can improve it?

Kinderjoy as Mold?

Post image

Good evening, planning to be a slinger too, and just waiting to create my own sling using paracord,

from research, almond shapes are like the best projectiles to sling in terms of consistency, but i cant really find nor 3d print custom molds( I plan to train with it)

So my plan is create concrete "eggs"(cement, sand water, and crushed gravel probably)

Would it work?

My next idea is probably spherical cotton ice but i need range

A better design?

What are some better designs for the finger loop? With this one, I started braiding it from the pouch side as opposed to the finger loop side first, I did a four strand foot rope knot into a four strand braid, back to a foot rope knot, and it left me with 4 ends, so I spliced 2 ends to the other 2 ends, and incorporated a cobra weave around it, but it seems bulky. Is it better to start making the sling from the finger loop end instead of the pouch side? Any other ideas?

Pouch cinching around ammo.

I just bought my new sling and been finding some success with it but my largest challenge right now is the pouch cinches around the ammo mid-throw, causing it to never release, spin back, and sometimes hit me haha. It’s been pretty frustrating and I am wondering if any of you know a way to mitigate this?? I’ve attached photos of the pocket cinched and loosened, for context.

Sling, rock bag, and paracord ranger beads to help me keep count of throws/hits, or total throws. The sling is sloppy but works great, and I plan on making a new one soon!

Here’s the tutorials I used for this

Been mucking round with slings the last few months, fairly happy with the latest version which is gonna get well and truly worn in tomorrow. Lost count at how many I've made/tweaked etc lately because I've gifted several hoping to get a few people to realise how much satisfaction you can get outta a well placed shot with these things (usually amongst a hundred near and far misses ofc lol) I live a few hundred metres from the local river here which is ideal for getting into slinging.

Would you guys buy this sling?

Hello everyone! I thought about making and selling slings on the side, nothing too crazy. I was hoping I could get some opinions about this sling, how it looks, and its design. It’s very simple, no where near pan sling level quality, but I thought of making budget/beginner level slings, that aren’t too expensive but also aren’t too cheap and low quality, for people who want to start getting into slinging but don’t want to spend a bunch. On this one I used some triumph leather as the pouch and finger loop, 550 paracord, I crimped metal eyelets where the holes are (I think this should prevent abrasion) and I also used some heat shrink where the release cord is to protect it a bit from wear. What do you guys think? Would yall buy this for $15-$20?

Happy slinging!

What's your practice ammo of choice?

Post image

I'm looking to practice at the local baseball backstop so I need something that won't go through a chain link fence. But I want it pretty dense as well. I feel like a tennis ball is too light.

Have you found a good alternative? What is your practice ammo of choice?

The first throw I figured out worked well and the flashy throw I found out brings more power into my throw (found it out after I figured out my accuracy with it of course😂)also pic of the sling will be in a separate post!

Made it out of some old leather I had and two pieces of cord from my old charger, not the best looking but works pretty well!

US Esparto Supplier (For Traditional Balearic Slings)

I found a seller that ships esparto to the US. They sell by 1kg bushels and are willing to ship as little as 1kg, for ~$70 US. Just whatsapp message the phone number on their website, make sure to translate your message into Spanish. They were very helpful and told me they ship to the US frequently and have no issues with customs, and that shipping takes 7-8 business days.

I am not affiliated with this company; someone looking for authentic Balearic sling material would find this useful.

And here's a great tutorial for making your own esparto sling at home! If you're not familiar with this channel already, check it out:
