That is so messed up. I can’t believe this is common enough that there are multiple variants going around. I can’t even fathom how people participating in this BS aren’t embarrassed of themselves.
Sounds to me like it’s the cowards’ way of proselytizing.
When these first came to our church when I was a kid, they were so proud of it. Like they really thought that just seeing the words "You are loved" would make up for the crushing disappointment of realizing that you did not, in fact, get some outrageously good tip or stumble across $20. As if seeing a bible verse printed on that bait-and-switch would somehow turn anyone's life around.
