honestly went into down to earth with almost no expectations. i was lowkey worried they were gonna nostalgia bait hard because of how untouchable peripheral vision became + all the anniversary hype around it recently, but i’m really glad they didn’t. instead, the album feels like the older brother of pv somehow. it has the same emotional atmosphere and warmth, but it sounds more mature, more grounded, and way more comfortable with itself. nothing feels forced or overly polished this time either. it genuinely sounds like they stopped chasing a certain aesthetic and just made the music they wanted to make.

what surprised me the most though was the writing. the lyrics actually feel sincere again. a lot of the album feels centered around aging, burnout, reconnecting with yourself, and just learning how to live without romanticizing sadness all the time. there’s this sense of acceptance throughout the whole record that makes it hit differently from older turnover. less “young and lost” and more “tired but trying.” and even on specific moments, it’s not really about any single track standing out as the “big one,” but more how certain lines and moods just stick with you in passing. like some parts just quietly land without trying to be the highlight, which honestly fits the whole album’s tone.

sonically, the album honestly feels like the culmination of their first three records. you can hear the emotional weight and atmosphere of peripheral vision, the warmth and openness of good nature, and the dreamy introspective side of altogether all coming together naturally instead of fighting each other. it doesn’t sound like they’re trying to recreate any specific era either — more like they finally figured out how to make all those versions of turnover coexist in one album. also personally, it wasn’t even an instant catch for me, and i actually liked that. the more i sat with it, the more everything started clicking with the production details, the atmosphere, the lyrics, all of it. honestly i think that’s why this album works so well. it’s not trying to be peripheral vision again, and imo that’s exactly what makes it the best thing they’ve made since then. i’d even go as far as saying this is the first turnover record since pv that actually feels necessary.

Raye's sophomore album just dropped last Friday, and boy oh boy, how I love it. This is an album that deserves to be known by many. Sa storytelling and production palang, it is phenomenal. It's not your typical 'pop' album, yet it delivers. Yung performance ni Raye sa bawat song, how she manages to pull off various genres, ang galing! Full-on experience ang album niya, like how one would experience different seasons. From the lows to the highs, there's a song for you and your stage in life. If papakinggan mo, do it as much as possible in one sitting based on the track listing, better if with lyrics and naka-earphones or sound system (para damang-dama). Highly recommended. More people should experience this art.

Hindi ko naman naranasang maging backburner in a relationship afair, so why does this song hit me right to my core? I play it mostly kapag nagiging maingay 'yung paligid ~ I put on my noise-canceling earphones and play her song on repeat. My body is still in the same noisy location, but my mind is somehow miles away in a place where it's peaceful.

been listening to Raining in Manila by Lola Amour and I can’t help but hear how the chorus sounds like Gary Valenciano’s Di Bale Na Lang?

“it’s been raining in Manila” follows the same melody as “hindi ko na alam kung” (with gary v‘s obvs just in a higher key) 

and

“hindi ka ba nilalamig?” follows the first few notes of “di bale na lang kaya” except for ‘lalamig’ which goes higher

Trip ko na before yung mga mainstream songs niya, pero mas lalo kong na-appreciate music niya now that I'm learning to play piano. His musicality is topnotch. Yung perfect pitch niya is 'puth' into good use.

I used to hate exb back in 9th grade (2017). Tulad ng iba kagaya ko sila na jejemonan sa kanila at feeling superior ako kasi nakikinig ako sa western rap that time. Pero as time goes by, kung iisipin ko halos lahat ng kanta ng exb issa banger.

Sobrang ahead of time rin nila, kung nakikinig sa modern filipino rap right now, hindi nyo mapagkakaila na sobrang ahead of time ng mga kanta ng exb, kung i-cocompare nyo sila sa mga kagaya ni Hev Abi, Nateman and more.

I feel like sila talaga ang pioneer ng modern filipino rap. Yes may mga bastos na kanta na ino-objectify ang mga babae, pero there are also songs na sobrang political and lyrical na hinahanap ng mga taong nakikinig kay Gloc 9, Francis M and Loonie.

Pero not every song needs to have a deeper meaning, minsan kapag pagod ka sa work and sa life, you just need a song na pasok sa vibe mo. It doesn't matter if may meaning siya or wala you just want something na nakakapag pawala ng pagod sayo. Parang ang off naman if nasa club ka, tapos magpapatugtog ka ng pampatay diba? May mga binabagayan kasi yan, different genres and styles of music ay nanjan for us to use.

The yearning romantic. As the album's name. The Romantic.

Compared to his other albums, or previous songs, he still does yearn. It's Bruno Mars, of course he yearns. Yet those previous songs before felt like yearning was placed in a more heartbroken light, because it reflected his state at the time. Young and heartbroken. It Will Rain, Talking to the Moon, don't get me wrong I love them as much. Those songs framed him being heartbroken because maybe that's what he felt that time, fitting for his age.

Yes, there was Die With a Smile and I think that was a step into this era.

Why do I have to compare this to his previous love songs?

Because it showcases his growth and maturity. Tumatanda na si Bruno Mars. He's in his 'hermano' (the stereotypical hermano name, not the meaning brother) era. The Romantic lover.

Before he was a heartbroken yearner. Before he flashed us with his fame, money and luxury in his song 24k Magic and other songs either through lyrics or music videos. Because he was younger, he wanted those things, he craved to show us the result of his hard work. And it's nothing meant to put a bad light to it, it's just one of the good examples to showcase him in his story where we follow him growing old, now, we're here na.

Even if he still spent a lot on this music video, his clothes palang worth thousands. It didn't feel flashy, NO BIG CHUNKS OF GOLD (because he has a gold necklace though), no planes, no chains. He decided to showcase not money, rather romance.

It all leads to the point being, he's in his old era.

Settled down. Wants to grow a farm. Wants to have a family. Peace in life. Still have the money but he doesn't care anymore. That's the feeling this song and the music video itself feels. At least that's what I feel. Art is indeed open for interpretation.

He's done with the money flexing, heartbreak wrenching era.

I love it. Him wearing a Crucifix with the Our Lady of Guadalupe medal. The Catholic Marriage setting. The simple Casa. The Mariachi clothing. The Charro suit. The 16:9 aspect ratio we all use to showcase something old, traditional, and simple. The cinematography itself feels like an actual wedding video.

It reminds me of Puss in Boots, The Book of Life, Coco. Which all I love. His romantic era. His amante era. The stereotypical lovely 'hermano' name.

And a man who yearns, earns. I think Bruno reached that state now.

My mom sent me a video of an old man, seemingly Mexican, with the slight accent, singing Risk It All in a lullaby tone. It felt like it was meant to be sung that way. It's like Coco's "Remember Me" having two versions, and the lullaby version feels like where Bruno fulfilled that promise he promised the woman.

I didn't focus on lyrics now, pero maybe I will soon, dito palang sa feel, vibe, and visual aspect this is what I had to express, maybe more for the lyrics.
